CBS News lists Rosland Capital as one of its five best gold IRA companies. Rosland filed for Chapter 11 bankruptcy on July 2, 2026. The CBS page says it was updated on August 7, 2026. That is 36 days after the filing. The page was unchanged when we read it again on October 2, 2026, 92 days after the filing. It does not mention the bankruptcy.

SafeOunce takes no money from any company named on this page. The facts below come from the court record and from the CBS page itself, and each source is linked.

What Does the CBS News Page Say?#

The CBS News page names Rosland Capital "Best for premium gold and collector-grade products." The article is titled "Best gold IRA companies and investing advice to know now." It carries the line "Updated on: August 7, 2026." It tells readers that "Rosland Capital could be a strong match."

The page also carries this notice: "We may receive commissions from some links to products on this page." It does not say which links pay.

Was Rosland on the CBS List Before the Bankruptcy?#

Yes. Rosland was already on the CBS list, and CBS updated the page twice in 2026 without removing it. Saved copies of the page in the Internet Archive's Wayback Machine show the dates.

CBS "Updated on" date What had happened at Rosland Rosland still listed? Saved copy
May 6, 2026 Still trading Yes June 18, 2026
June 24, 2026 All but two employees let go 5 days earlier Yes July 9, 2026
August 7, 2026 Bankruptcy filed 36 days earlier Yes August 7, 2026
No newer update 91 days after the filing Yes October 1, 2026

CBS did not add Rosland after the bankruptcy. It kept Rosland through two updates, one after the staff were let go and one after the filing.

What Does the Court Record Say?#

Rosland Capital LLC filed Chapter 11 in the U.S. Bankruptcy Court for the Central District of California, case 2:26-bk-16650-BB. Chapter 11 is a court process for a company that cannot pay its debts. This one is a liquidating case, which means the company is being wound down, not rescued.

The figures come from the sworn statement of Rosland's chief restructuring officer, filed on the first day of the case.

The cash equals about 0.35% of what Rosland owed its customers. One day after that cash count, the CBS page was updated with Rosland still on it.

Was There a Warning Before the Bankruptcy?#

Yes. Washington State's securities regulator fined Rosland $20,000 on August 4, 2022, which was 1,428 days before the bankruptcy. The consent order (S-20-3045-22-CO01) records IRA orders that were delivered 33 to 168 days after customers paid. A consent order is a settlement with a regulator. Late delivery is the same problem that ended the company four years later.

What Else Does the CBS Page Get Wrong?#

The CBS page says required minimum distributions start "at 72." The current age is 73, or 75 if you were born in 1960 or later. The IRS states the ages in its required minimum distribution FAQs. A required minimum distribution is the amount the IRS makes you take out of an IRA each year once you reach that age.

The page also praises "collector-grade products" for a retirement account. Under 26 U.S.C. 408(m), an IRA cannot hold collectibles. The law allows only certain named coins and bullion of set purity. Collector coins also carry the largest dealer markups.

Why Does This Matter to a Gold IRA Buyer?#

A "best of" list is only as good as its last status check. We read nine "best gold IRA" lists on September 29, 2026. They named 20 companies and five different #1 picks. None of the nine scored court or regulator records.

Three checks take about ten minutes and cost nothing:

  1. Search the company name on CourtListener for bankruptcy and lawsuits.
  2. Search your state securities regulator for orders against the company.
  3. Look at the date on the list, then look for news after that date.

Our page on the Rosland Capital bankruptcy shows what each type of Rosland customer can do now. Our list of failed gold IRA companies covers the other nine cases. Our method page explains how SafeOunce rates gold IRA companies using these records.

If CBS News updates its page, we will record the date and the change here.
