Gold Alliance, a gold IRA seller run by Gold Alliance Capital, Inc. of Reno, Nevada, is closed: its own notice says it stopped doing business "effective June 24, 2024." If you bought through it, your metal is not with Gold Alliance. So where is it, and who answers your calls now?
A gold IRA is an IRA that holds physical gold through a custodian, the trust company that holds the account and sends your statements. Gold IRA companies such as Gold Alliance sell the metal, while the custodian holds the account. This page dates the closure, names the company behind the brand and gives former Gold Alliance customers 6 checks, starting with the custodian. It also covers today's costs, the complaint record as of November 6, 2026, the old terms and out-of-date reviews. Gold Alliance is one of the closed sellers in our list of gold IRA companies, checked with the same records as the ones still operating.
This page covers the Gold Alliance that sold gold IRAs from Reno and Woodland Hills, not Allegiance Gold or Hard Assets Alliance.
The 12 facts below come from the archived company website, the BBB, Trustpilot and a 2021 press release, each dated.

Is Gold Alliance Still in Business? No: It Closed on June 24, 2024#
No: Gold Alliance closed, and its own notice says the closing took effect on June 24, 2024. The BBB now marks its profile "Out-of-Business known or suspected" and shows no rating, as of November 6, 2026. SafeOunce found no bankruptcy case, no receivership and no regulator action, the usual records left by failed gold IRA companies. A receivership is when a court puts a person in charge of a company's money.
What does a closure without a bankruptcy mean for you? No court is collecting claims, so there is no court-appointed trustee and no bankruptcy claims deadline. Normal legal time limits for a claim against the company still apply. Your custodian still holds your IRA, and it is the place to start. Gold Alliance is one of 10 failed gold IRA companies SafeOunce tracks, one of those listed as closed rather than bankrupt.
Gold Alliance timeline, 2002 to 2026#

What the closure notice says, and what it leaves out#
The notice gives one reason, "circumstances beyond our control," and promises a helpline and referrals to "trusted partners," but names no buyer, no partner and no custodian. Here is the core of it, as shown in the copy saved November 4, 2024:
The reason is not public. The same notice says the company served the metals community "over the past decade", a phrase that clashes with its other founding dates.
The notice leaves out four things a customer needs, listed below.
- The reason for closing.
- The name of any "trusted partner" it would refer you to.
- What happens to unpaid buybacks or unfilled orders.
- Any instruction to contact your custodian.
Why the website kept selling after the closing date#
Copies of Gold Alliance's homepage saved by the Internet Archive show the full sales page and no closure notice on July 1, August 6, September 17 and October 7, 2024. Each of those copies still carries the free-guide sign-up form. The Internet Archive is a free public library of saved web pages. The last copy without a notice, saved October 7, 2024, came 105 days after the closing date.
The notice first appears in a copy saved November 4, 2024, 133 days after June 24. Even then, the sign-up form stayed beside the notice in copies through December 13, 2024. The form offered a free gold IRA kit, the "Gold and Silver Information Kit". The current site, as of November 6, 2026, still carries a contact form with the same consent to automated calls.
SafeOunce cannot tell whether anyone answered calls from these forms. The copies do show that a reader in summer 2024 saw no sign the company had closed. What happens after you send your details for one of the free gold IRA kits is explained in our kit guide.
Who Was Gold Alliance? Legal Names, Offices and Leaders#
Gold Alliance was a precious metals dealer that sold gold and silver coins and bars and arranged gold IRAs. It was operated by Gold Alliance Capital, Inc. from Reno, Nevada, and Woodland Hills, California. Its 2022 FAQ said: "We are headquartered in Reno, NV, with an office in Woodland Hills, CA."
Why does the legal name matter now? Your old paperwork, any complaint and any court search use the legal name, not the brand.
Gold Alliance Capital, Inc., Gold Alliance, Inc. and the 2021 purchase#
Gold Alliance's website terms of June 11, 2020 name the operator as Gold Alliance Capital Inc. A company press release of September 14, 2021 says Gold Alliance Capital Inc. acquired Gold Alliance Inc., a company "founded in 2002." The release names "Gold Alliance's CEO Joseph Sherman" and says the corporate office was "moving to Reno, Nevada." In July 2023, Gold Alliance Capital, Inc. applied for the "GOLD ALLIANCE" trademark (USPTO serial 98073485).
The names and numbers the company used are set out in the table below.
| Name or number | Where it appears | Date |
|---|---|---|
| Gold Alliance Capital, Inc. | Website terms; USPTO application; BBB alternate names | 2020; 2023; 2026 |
| Gold Alliance, Inc. | Company release; BBB alternate names | 2021; 2026 |
| Gold Alliance Holdings, Inc. | BBB alternate names only | 2026 |
| 888-567-6689 | Company release; website disclaimer; BBB profile | 2021 to 2026 |
Earlier SafeOunce pages called the Reno BBB profile an unconfirmed match. It is confirmed. As of November 6, 2026, the BBB profile lists goldalliance.com and Gold Alliance Capital, Inc. The company's own website also used the same Reno address and the same 888-567-6689 number.
SafeOunce has not yet confirmed the entity's current standing with the state. How to check a gold IRA company by its legal name in state, court and regulator records is on our verification guide.
When was Gold Alliance founded? Five different answers#
The records give five answers: 2002, 20 years by 2022, 19 years, "the past decade", and 2017. The table lists each answer with its source and date.
| Answer | Source | Date |
|---|---|---|
| 2002: business started and incorporated May 30 | BBB profile | Read Nov. 6, 2026 |
| "© 2002-2022" and "Celebrating 20 Years in Business" | Gold Alliance website | Saved Jan. 24, 2022 |
| "privately held business for 19 years" | Gold Alliance IRA FAQ | Saved Jan. 24, 2022 |
| "over the past decade" | Closure notice | 2024 |
| First use of the "GOLD ALLIANCE" mark Nov. 17, 2017; "Established in 2017" | USPTO application 98073485; Sophisticated Investor | Filed July 6, 2023; read Nov. 6, 2026 |
The 2021 purchase of an older company with the same name may explain the spread, but SafeOunce has found no record that settles which date is right.
Who ran Gold Alliance?#
Gold Alliance's leadership page, saved November 28, 2023, named Joseph Sherman as CEO and partner and Kevin Troy and Fred Abadi as directors and partners. See the archived copy. The BBB lists Kyle Roberts, Customer Support Manager, as its contact. The company did not publish who owned what share.
What Former Gold Alliance Customers Should Check: 6 Steps#
Former Gold Alliance customers should make 6 checks, starting with the custodian named on their IRA statement, because the custodian still holds the account. The depository is the vault that stores the metal, and its holdings list is its record of what it holds for you. Make the 6 checks in the order below.
- Find your custodian on your statement.
- Get the vault's holdings list through the custodian.
- Match every coin and bar to your invoices.
- Name a new dealer before you sell.
- Check the fees the custodian still charges.
- Report any unpaid buyback or missing metal.
Most checks cost nothing but a letter or a call.
Metal that was delivered sits in your IRA's own account at the vault. It is not the dealer's property, so it stays yours when a dealer closes. One caution comes from an SEC and NASAA investor alert: "Self-directed IRA custodians generally do not evaluate the quality or legitimacy of any investment in the self-directed IRA or its promoters."
Check 1: Find your custodian on your statement#
Your custodian is the trust company whose name is at the top of your IRA statement. Gold Alliance's 2022 FAQ used Equity Trust as its fee example, so check for that name first. Sources name four custodians in all, as the table shows.
| Custodian | Named by | Date |
|---|---|---|
| Equity Trust | Gold Alliance FAQ (as an example); LendEDU; Sophisticated Investor; the Google Sites guide; a Trustpilot reviewer ("it's under Equity Trust") | 2022 to 2026 |
| STRATA Trust | Sophisticated Investor | Undated |
| GoldStar Trust | Sophisticated Investor; the Google Sites guide | 2023 or later |
| Preferred Trust | The Google Sites guide | 2023 |
Fees, schedules and the complaint record of Equity Trust are on its profile.
Call the number printed on the statement, not a number from a search result or from goldalliance.com.
Check 2: Get the Delaware Depository holdings list through your custodian#
Ask your custodian, in writing, for the vault's own list of every coin and bar held for your IRA, because the vault's record is what proves the metal exists. Gold Alliance's 2022 FAQ said: "We recommend the Delaware Depository Services Company's vault in Wilmington, DE." Your account may sit there, but your custodian confirms it.
Ask your custodian for these three things.
- Ask for the depository name and your account number there.
- Ask for the holdings by item, year and quantity.
- Ask whether the account is segregated or commingled. Segregated means your own coins on your own shelf. Commingled means like coins on a shared shelf, and you get back the same kind, not the same pieces.
Fees, insurance and audits at the Delaware Depository are on its profile.
The vault insures $1 billion all-risk plus $100 million contingent, per its FAQ (read September 29, 2026), with exclusions such as war and government confiscation. It pays the metal's value, not the premium you paid, unless a declared value is on file.
Check 3: Match every coin and bar to your Gold Alliance invoices#
Lay your Gold Alliance invoices next to the holdings list and tick off every item, year and quantity. Anything on an invoice but not on the list is a problem to raise at once. A Trustpilot reviewer wrote on September 18, 2025 that "the initial statement showed they received only $22k." It is unverified, but it is the kind of gap to look for.
How long should delivery have taken? The CFTC uses 28 days as its "actual delivery" yardstick for leveraged metals sales (release 8215-20, August 4, 2020), a benchmark, not a legal deadline for IRA purchases. Gold Alliance's own 2022 FAQ promised transfers "completed within 5 business days on average", a company claim SafeOunce has not checked.
The six checks to check that your gold is really in your IRA are on our delivery checklist.
Check 4: Name a new dealer, because the Gold Alliance buyback ended#
The Gold Alliance buyback ended when the company closed. To sell gold in your IRA now, you ask your custodian to sell through another dealer you choose. Gold Alliance's FAQ promised to buy back "at the current buy-back price," with no guarantee.
A BBB reviewer advised on August 21, 2024: "they only buy back what they sell you. So keep your paperwork."
Get two written bids before you sell. A bid is what a dealer pays you today. Ask each dealer for the price per coin and its percent over spot, the market price for one ounce of raw metal.
Required minimum distributions (RMDs) start at 73 if you were born from 1951 to 1958, or 75 if born in 1960 or later (26 U.S.C. 401(a)(9)(C)(v)). Without the buyback, three routes remain, listed below with Equity Trust's metals-only fees.
- Take coins out "in kind": $125 plus shipping, taxed at their value on the day processed. A metals-only IRA cannot withhold tax on coins.
- Sell coins through a new dealer: $30 plus the dealer's spread.
- Take the whole RMD from another traditional IRA you own: $0 at the gold IRA (Treas. Reg. 1.408-8).
Ask by early December, because the processing day sets the value.
How to sell gold in your IRA, with fees and taxes, is on our selling guide.
Check 5: Watch the custodian fees that keep running#
Your custodian keeps billing its yearly account and storage fees after the dealer closes. If your account is on Equity Trust's metals-only schedule (FS-0004-05 Rev. 081726), that is $235 or $285 a year, billed each January and not prorated. Ask when the next bill is due.
What if a bill goes unpaid? Equity Trust's metals disclosure (CA_F-0003-05, Rev. 121625) says it may sell your metal to pay fees due and "force distribute any remaining assets." From a traditional IRA, that payout is taxable income (26 U.S.C. 408(d)(1)), plus a 10% extra tax before age 59½ (26 U.S.C. 72(t)). Keep your address current so the bill reaches you.
Check 6: Report unpaid buybacks or missing metal#
Report it in writing to your custodian and to a regulator the same week. That applies to an unpaid buyback or a missing invoiced item. On October 5, 2024, a Trustpilot reviewer wrote that they "sent 15K worth of gold back to GA in July by Fed-Ex." The company replied on Trustpilot that the metals were paid for and the check was cashed (reply updated January 2, 2025). Neither side's account is verified.
You can report a gold IRA company to the three agencies listed below.
- Your state securities regulator, which you can find through NASAA.
- The CFTC, for fraud in precious metals sales.
- The FTC, for sales and marketing practices.
Which agency handles what is set out in how to report a gold IRA company.
Do not expect the custodian to cover the loss. Equity Trust's metals disclosure says it is not responsible for dealer delivery failures or for the "authenticity" of coins and bars. After Oxford Gold Group failed, its customers sued Equity Trust in a class action, Short v. Equity Trust Company, C.D. Cal. No. 2:24-cv-06788, filed August 9, 2024. Its claims are alleged, and no outcome was found as of September 29, 2026.
There is no bankruptcy claims deadline, but legal time limits still run, so report it now. Anyone who charges a fee to recover your money is a known follow-up scam.
What a Gold Alliance IRA Costs Now That the Company Is Gone#
A Gold Alliance IRA still costs money after the closure: yearly custodian fees, an exit fee if you leave, and the gap between what you paid and today's value.
How much is each in dollars? The tables below use Equity Trust's schedules and a $50,000 account to show the gold IRA fees a former customer still faces. How these costs compare across custodians and sellers is on gold IRA fees.
Annual fees: $180 in 2022, $235 or $285 on today's schedule#
Gold Alliance's 2022 FAQ put a precious metals IRA at Equity Trust at "$180 per year." Equity Trust's current metals-only schedule charges $125 plus $110 or $160 for storage. That is $235 or $285 a year. The table compares the two.
| Item | 2022 Gold Alliance example | Equity Trust FS-0004-05 Rev. 081726 |
|---|---|---|
| Annual account fee | Included | $125 |
| Storage, non-segregated | Included (storage type not stated) | $110 |
| Storage, segregated | Not stated | $160 |
| Total a year | $180 | $235 or $285 |
| Difference | n/a | +$55 (30.6%) or +$105 (58.3%) |
| 10 years at today's fee | n/a | $2,350 or $2,850 |
| Share of a $50,000 account a year | 0.36% | 0.47% or 0.57% |
The $180 was Gold Alliance's "example". Equity Trust uses 4 fee schedules, and which one applies depends on how the account was opened. Every Gold Alliance account was opened before August 2024, the cut-off for Equity Trust's legacy retail schedule. The table prices three of the schedules at $50,000.
| Equity Trust schedule (read Sept. 29, 2026) | Who it covers | Yearly fee | At $50,000 with storage |
|---|---|---|---|
| Metals-only, FS-0004-05 Rev. 081726 | Accounts that "May hold Precious Metals Only" | $125 at any balance | $235 or $285 |
| Legacy retail, FS-0001-03 Rev. 081726 | "Retail accounts opened prior to August 2024 that are not managed by a financial advisor or other professional" | $225 to $2,250 by account value | $535 or $585 |
| Universal IRA, FS-0001-01 Rev. 110625 | Current direct retail IRAs | $350 to $2,500 by account value | $610 or $660 |
Ask Equity Trust, in writing, which schedule and revision your account is on.
Leaving: what it costs to sell, move or close#
Closing an Equity Trust metals IRA by selling costs $280, and moving the metal itself to a new custodian costs up to $375 plus shipping. Both figures come from the metals-only schedule, Rev. 081726. The table shows each route.
| Route | Fees | Total |
|---|---|---|
| Sell and close | $30 sale + $250 termination | $280 (+ $30 if wired) |
| Move metal in kind and close | $125 transfer out + shipping (minimum $50) + $250 termination if charged | Up to $375 plus shipping |
| Take coins home (taxable distribution) | $125 + shipping (minimum $50) | $175 or more |
Another custodian on your statement? Its own schedule applies, as the table shows for the three others linked to Gold Alliance.
| Custodian (schedule) | Yearly cost | Sell and close | Move in kind and close |
|---|---|---|---|
| GoldStar Trust (GTC Rev. 01/2026) | $215 shared storage; segregated from $315 | $150 termination; no sale fee | $150 + $75 in-kind fee + $10 and shipping |
| STRATA Trust (fee page modified Aug. 31, 2026) | $265 shared; $325 segregated | $75 per sale + $250 closure = $325 | $250 closure + $100 re-registration = $350 |
| Preferred Trust (schedule 1.26.26) | $300 plus storage, which varies by vault | $200 sale + $300 termination = $500 | $200 in kind + $300 termination = up to $500 |
A gold IRA transfer, also called a trustee-to-trustee transfer, moves the account straight from one custodian to another. It is not a rollover: there is no 60-day clock, no once-a-year limit and no withholding (IRS Publication 590-A). A gold IRA transfer keeps the metal in the IRA and out of your hands.
"In kind" means the same coins move, unsold. The schedule does not say whether both the $125 and the $250 apply to one in-kind exit, so "up to $375" is the top of the range.
Taking coins home counts as a distribution, taxed as ordinary income in the year you take it.
Every custodian's exit charges are compared on gold IRA termination and transfer-out fees.
Why your statement may show far less than you paid#
Your custodian values your metal at what a dealer would pay today, so the statement shows less than you paid. The gap is roughly the dealer's markup, before gold has moved at all. The spread is the gap between the price you pay and the price a dealer pays you back.
Two customers describe Gold Alliance's markup. A BBB complainant says the company explained a 30% "operating margin" that was "not clearly disclosed" (August 2024). A Trustpilot reviewer says it "had to make a 20% profit" when it bought gold back (April 2024). Both are customer statements, not verified. Gold Alliance's own disclaimer warned metals might not rise enough "to produce a profit above and beyond the markup/ commissions charged."
The table runs a hypothetical $50,000 purchase at four spreads, with the gold price flat. It assumes a dealer bids 95.3125% of its own cost. The CFTC puts bullion at 5% to 10% over spot and collector (numismatic) coins at 40% to 200% (release 8215-20).
| Spread | What $50,000 buys at dealer cost | Statement value at bid | Rise needed to break even |
|---|---|---|---|
| 5% | $47,500 | $45,273 | 10.4% |
| 20% | $40,000 | $38,125 | 31.1% |
| 30% | $35,000 | $33,359 | 49.9% |
| 50% | $25,000 | $23,828 | 109.8% |
Break-even is the rise in the gold price you need before you get back what you paid. Gold Alliance's actual markup is not documented, so the spreads above are scenarios. Every published spread range is on gold IRA markups and spreads.
Gold did not stay flat, though. Every Gold Alliance purchase came before June 24, 2024. From the end of 2023 to September 28, 2026, gold roughly doubled on the LBMA PM price. It rose 25.5% in 2024 and 67.4% in 2025, then fell 5.1% in 2026 to September 28 ($4,144.55). The table values the same $50,000, bought at the end-2023 price, on that date.
| Spread | Statement value on day one | Value on Sept. 28, 2026 |
|---|---|---|
| 5% | $45,273 | about $90,300 |
| 20% | $38,125 | about $76,000 |
| 30% | $33,359 | about $66,500 |
| 50% | $23,828 | about $47,500 |

Gold Alliance Complaints, BBB Record and Reviews#
As of November 6, 2026, Gold Alliance's record shows 9 BBB complaints in three years, a Trustpilot score of 2.1 and no lawsuit or regulator action found.
What BBB and Trustpilot ratings can and cannot tell you is on our signals page.
BBB: out of business, 9 complaints, no rating#
The BBB shows Gold Alliance as "Not Rated" because it is out of business, with 9 complaints closed in three years and none in 12 months (November 6, 2026). The table breaks the 9 complaints down by type and by status on the BBB complaints page.
| Complaint type | Count | Status | Count |
|---|---|---|---|
| Service or Repair Issues | 5 | Answered | 5 |
| Billing Issues | 1 | Resolved | 2 |
| Customer Service Issues | 1 | Unpursuable | 2 |
| Product Issues | 1 | ||
| Sales and Advertising Issues | 1 | ||
| Total | 9 | Total | 9 |
"Unpursuable" means the BBB could not take the complaint forward, for example because the business could not be reached. Only 2 of the 9 complaint texts are shown. The August 7, 2024 complaint reads: "I have been trying to reach Gold Alliance by phone and email and getting no response." The business replied on August 8 that it had called on July 31 and August 1 and emailed on August 1. The complainant rejected the reply and later wrote that the business explained a 30% "operating margin" that was not clearly disclosed.
The BBB shows 14 reviews averaging 4.43 stars. One one-star review says the company "went out of business and took half of my money with them" (January 31, 2025). Review sites that still show "A+" and "4.95 from 91 reviews" date from August 2024 or earlier.
The BBB counts only complaints closed in the last 3 years. As the 2023 and 2024 complaints age out, the count will fall toward zero without anything changing.
Trustpilot: 74 reviews, and 12 one-star reviews since the closure#
Trustpilot shows Gold Alliance at 2.1 out of 5 from 74 reviews. Of the 14 reviews dated after June 24, 2024, 12 give one star and none gives four or five, as of November 6, 2026. The table compares all reviews with the reviews posted after the closing date.
| Period | Reviews | 5 or 4 stars | 3 stars | 2 stars | 1 star |
|---|---|---|---|---|---|
| All reviews | 74 | 77% | 1% | 4% | 18% |
| Dated after June 24, 2024 | 14 | 0 | 1 (updated review) | 1 | 12 |
The profile has been claimed by the company since February 2021. Trustpilot notes "No recent history of asking for reviews" and "Hasn't replied to negative reviews". Yet the company replied to most positive reviews and to one negative review (posted October 5, 2024; reply updated January 2, 2025). These counts are SafeOunce's own, and Trustpilot does not verify reviews. How gold IRA review sites earn money, often from the companies they feature, is explained on our reviews guide.
What former customers report: 4 patterns#
Four patterns repeat in the BBB and Trustpilot reviews posted around and after the closure, all of them customer statements that SafeOunce has not verified. They are listed below with dated examples.
- Statements far below the amount invested. "I also got robbed with a $49K IRA transfer that they took $26K from me" (Trustpilot, December 26, 2025). Another reviewer says an IRA was "down 50 %" two months after investing (Trustpilot, July 15, 2025).
- Buyback payouts below expectation. "They had to make a 20% profit when they bought the gold back" (Trustpilot, April 16, 2024). A BBB reviewer who "INVESTED APPROXIMATELY $29,200" says an itemized list of charges was not provided (May 13, 2024).
- No answer after the closure. The BBB complaint of August 7, 2024, quoted above; the company says it called and emailed.
- Closure learned second-hand. "GA closed its doors and is going into final dissolution" (Trustpilot, August 1, 2024). "Now finding out the company is going out of business" (Trustpilot, October 6, 2025).
A large markup explains a large gap on day one. A gap that is still there after gold's 2024 and 2025 rise points to high-premium coins or missing metal.
Lawsuits and regulator actions: none found#
SafeOunce found no lawsuit naming Gold Alliance as a party and no CFTC, SEC or state regulator action, in searches on September 29 and November 6, 2026. The searches covered CourtListener ("Gold Alliance Capital", "Gold Alliance Inc", and "Gold Alliance" with "gold IRA" or "Equity Trust") and actions by the CFTC, the SEC, state attorneys general and California's DFPI.
None found in these searches does not mean none exists. Cases where regulators did act are in our list of precious metals IRA enforcement actions.
Was Gold Alliance legit, or a scam?#
Gold Alliance was a real, incorporated company that sold real metal for years, and SafeOunce found no court or regulator finding that it defrauded anyone (searches of September 29 and November 6, 2026). It also put two useful warnings in writing. Its FAQ said the law bars a guaranteed buyback, and its disclaimer warned that metals might not rise enough to cover the markup.
The record also shows four weaknesses. It published no prices. Customers say they learned about the markup only later. Its sales website stayed up for months after the closing date. And its closure left buyback customers to find another dealer. "Legit" and "low-cost" are different questions.
Gold Alliance Fees, Minimum, Buyback and Terms (2020 to 2024 Record)#
Gold Alliance never published its coin prices; its FAQ gave one fee example, its buyback page promised fast payment but no guarantee, and its terms sent disputes to arbitration.
Fees and minimum: what the company and review sites said#
Gold Alliance's own pages gave no IRA minimum and one fee example, while review sites printed two different yearly fees ($175 and $200) and two different minimums. The table lines up each source with its date.
| Source | Yearly fee | Minimum | Date |
|---|---|---|---|
| Gold Alliance FAQ | $180 at Equity Trust ("As an example") | None stated | Saved Jan. 24, 2022 |
| RetirementLiving | $175 | "There is no minimum investment" | Undated |
| LendEDU | $200 | $20,000 | Data Aug. 21, 2024 |
| Gold Alliance product page | "Call for Pricing" | n/a | Saved Aug. 15, 2024 |
That yearly fee went to the custodian and the vault. Gold Alliance earned its money on the metal price, which it did not publish.
Buyback: "The law prohibits us from guaranteeing to repurchase"#
Gold Alliance's FAQ said in writing that it could not guarantee a buyback. The same words appear in copies saved January 24, 2022 and November 21, 2024:
The 2020 buy-back page said payment would come "within three business days." It said Gold Alliance "only buys precious-metal coins and bars" and was "not responsible for loss or damage during shipping." RetirementLiving still lists a "Buy-back guarantee" and says Gold Alliance "guarantees to purchase them back", which the company's own FAQ contradicts. The closure ended the program. Gold IRA buyback programs last only as long as the seller does.
What other sellers' contracts promise is on gold IRA buyback programs.
Website terms: arbitration in Los Angeles and no class actions#
Gold Alliance's website terms of June 11, 2020 sent disputes to binding arbitration in Los Angeles and banned class actions. Arbitration is a private judge instead of a court. The terms used the American Arbitration Association's Commercial Arbitration Rules and California law. On costs, they said:
These were the website's terms of use. Arbitration clauses and claim deadlines in gold IRA contracts set where and how fast a customer can bring a claim. The customer purchase agreement is not public, and SafeOunce has not seen one. How other sellers' contracts compare is in arbitration and claim deadlines in gold IRA contracts.
A 2024 sign-up line said that clicking meant agreeing to the terms "including our arbitration provision." It also meant agreeing to calls and texts by an automatic dialer "even if your phone is on a Do Not Call registry."
Statements on the old website that were wrong#
Four statements on Gold Alliance's website did not match the law or the vault's own terms. The table sets each one against the rule.
| What the website said | What the rule says | Source |
|---|---|---|
| The Delaware vault is an "IRS-approved depository" (FAQ, 2022) | The IRS approves no vault. IRA bullion must be "in the physical possession of a trustee" | 26 U.S.C. 408(m)(3)(B) |
| "fully comprehensive insurance" at the Delaware Depository (FAQ, 2022) | $1 billion all-risk plus $100 million contingent; excludes war, terrorism, cyber and government confiscation; pays metal value, not premiums, unless a declared value is on file | Delaware Depository FAQ |
| 60-day rollover: "Do this within 60 days and you won't incur any taxes or penalties" (FAQ, 2022) | Only one IRA-to-IRA 60-day rollover in 12 months; a check from a 401(k) has 20% withheld | 26 U.S.C. 408(d)(3)(B); Announcement 2014-15; 26 U.S.C. 3405(c) |
| Both routes called "tax-free and penalty-free" (FAQ, 2022) | Transfers are tax-free; a 60-day rollover is tax-free only if every rule is met | IRS Publication 590-A |
Even "IRA-approved" metals are simply metals the tax code allows, as explained on IRA-approved precious metals.
Review Pages That Still Describe Gold Alliance as Open#
At least four review pages that rank or are indexed in November 2026 still describe Gold Alliance as an operating company, including one dated February 10, 2026. The table shows what each says and what the record shows.
| Page | Date shown | What it says | What the record shows |
|---|---|---|---|
| WireDaily release on newswire.com | Feb. 22, 2025 (243 days after the closing date) | "trusted provider of precious metals and gold IRA services" | Closed June 24, 2024 |
| LendEDU | Feb. 10, 2026 (data Aug. 21, 2024) | Score 3.6 of 5; BBB "A+", 4.95 from 91 reviews | BBB Not Rated, out of business (Nov. 6, 2026) |
| RetirementLiving | Undated | "no minimum", "Free precious metals storage", "Buy-back guarantee", 2019 IRA limits, RMDs at 70 1/2 | $175 fee on the same page; the FAQ denied any guarantee; 2026 limit $7,500 + $1,100 (Notice 2025-67); RMD age 73 or 75 (26 U.S.C. 401(a)(9)(C)(v)) |
| Google Sites "Gold IRA Guide" | "2023 Copyright" | "reputable", "A-rating" | Closed; BBB Not Rated |
Sophisticated Investor updated its summary to say the company "ceased operations." Its body still says "Now appears to be a great time to invest with Gold Alliance."
5 Warning Signs From the Gold Alliance Closure to Check With Any Gold IRA Company#
The Gold Alliance record shows five things any gold IRA buyer can check before sending money. Each comes with the question to ask.
- Prices by phone only. Ask for the price per coin and its percent over spot, in writing.
- A buyback without a written formula. Ask how the bid is set and how fast it pays.
- A review dated after a company's last real activity. Check the BBB status and the date on every review page.
- "IRS-approved" in the sales copy. No coin, dealer or vault is IRS-approved.
- One custodian chosen for you. Pick and call the custodian yourself.
The full set of 12 questions to ask a gold IRA company is on our choosing guide.
Why SafeOunce Does Not Rate Gold Alliance#
SafeOunce does not rate Gold Alliance because it closed: a closure notice triggers the "Not rated: closed" label and removes a company from every best-of list. No company can pay to change its rating or its place. The status rules are part of how SafeOunce rates gold IRA companies.
What Happens to Your Gold IRA When the Company Closes?#
When a gold IRA company closes, metal already delivered stays in your IRA's vault account, while unpaid buybacks and unfilled orders become debts the company owes you. The four positions a customer can be in are set out on what happens when a gold IRA company goes out of business.
Why a gold IRA statement can show less than you paid is on our statement guide.
If you want to buy again, the best gold IRA companies still operating are compared by cost, contract and record. Whether a gold IRA is worth it at all is covered in gold IRA pros and cons. SafeOunce takes no money from any company named on this page.
Other gold IRA companies that failed or closed#
Five other gold IRA sellers failed or closed between 2018 and 2026: four went into bankruptcy, and one (Regal Assets) lost a regulator case in federal court. Each is listed below with its status, date and case.
Gold Alliance, similar names and old web addresses#
Several businesses share part of the Gold Alliance name, and Gold Alliance itself ran four other websites, so check names carefully. The five questions below sort them out.
Is Gold Alliance the same as Allegiance Gold?#
No: Allegiance Gold, LLC is a separate dealer in Calabasas, California, operating as of September 29, 2026. It ranks just below Gold Alliance's review pages in Google (US results, November 6, 2026). Our Allegiance Gold review covers that company.
Is Gold Alliance the same as Hard Assets Alliance?#
No: Hard Assets Alliance is a different metals platform, called GBI Direct as of September 29, 2026. It has its own Hard Assets Alliance IRA review.
Was Gold Alliance a trust company?#
No: Gold Alliance was a dealer, not a trust company, even though its 2020 terms list goldequitytrust.com and goldalliedtrust.com among its own websites. The same terms also list themorningstargold.com and preciousmetalsamerica.com. A name with "trust" in it does not make a business an IRA custodian. Your custodian is the trust company named on your statement.
Was Gold Alliance a publicly traded company?#
No: Gold Alliance described itself as "a privately held business," and SafeOunce found no stock listing. That wording comes from its 2022 FAQ.
Can you still call Gold Alliance?#
The closure notice promises a "dedicated helpline" but gives no number, and SafeOunce has not tested the number on the site. The current website also shows placeholder contact details. Call your custodian first; it holds your account and your records.
