Patriot Gold Group Review 2026: Is It Legit? Gold IRA Fees, Minimums, Pros and Cons

Patriot Gold Group checked Sept. 2026: legal name, 0 BBB complaints, 2 court cases, $25,000 IRA minimum, "no fees for life" costed, prices not published.

Key takeaways

  • Patriot Gold Group is a legitimate dealer with a clean complaint record, but it publishes none of the numbers that decide your cost: coin prices, spread and buyback terms.
  • Patriot Gold Group is a Seal Beach, California precious metals dealer, founded in 2016, that sells gold and silver coins and bars and arranges gold IRAs.
  • Patriot Gold Group has zero BBB complaints in three years, two business lawsuits and no regulator action found, as of September 29, 2026.
  • Patriot Gold Group publishes a one-page risk disclosure but no customer agreement, so its cancellation window, buyback formula, dispute rules and markup cannot be checked before you call.
  • Patriot Gold Group's minimum is $25,000 for a gold IRA and $10,000 for a cash purchase, according to its own landing page read on September 29, 2026.

Patriot Gold Group is a gold IRA dealer in Seal Beach, California, with an A+ BBB grade, zero BBB complaints and no regulator action found (September 29, 2026). It does not publish its coin prices, its markup or its customer agreement. The markup is the part of the price that is not metal. Patriot Gold Group is not Patriot Gold Corp., the gold exploration stock (PGOL), or the other small dealers with "Patriot" in their names. So the question is not whether the company exists, but what its "No Fees for Life" IRA really costs you.

A gold IRA is an individual retirement account that holds physical gold through a custodian, the trust company that runs the account. Gold IRA companies, such as Patriot, Goldco and Birch Gold, are the dealers that set one up and sell you the metal. Patriot is one of the gold IRA companies SafeOunce checks with the same records, fee and contract questions.

This Patriot Gold Group review checks its legal names, court cases and the $25,000 IRA minimum on its own landing page. It then prices "No Fees for Life", the hidden spread on a $100,000 account and the free silver, reads the buyback and home-storage wording, and says who Patriot suits.

The 13 facts below come from Patriot's website, the Better Business Bureau (BBB), Trustpilot (a public review website) and California court records, all read September 29, 2026. The last row links to Patriot's own site.

Is Patriot Gold Group Legit? Our Verdict#

Yes, Patriot Gold Group is a legitimate dealer with a clean complaint record, but it publishes none of the numbers that decide your cost: coin prices, spread and buyback terms. Its "No Fees for Life" offer is real value only if the metal it sells you is priced close to the market. Patriot Gold Group legit checks on records come back clean. Legit is only the first test: the way to check a gold IRA company by its legal name, BBB file and court records is on our verification guide.

The spot price is today's market price for one ounce of raw metal. The spread is the markup over spot as a share of what you pay: at a 20% spread, $20 of every $100 buys no metal. "Percent over spot" measures the same markup against the metal's market price instead.

Before sending money, ask Patriot for three things in writing: the price per coin, the "No Fees for Life" qualifying amount and the buyback formula.

Look elsewhere if you have less than $25,000 to move (the IRA minimum on Patriot's landing page), or if you want a published spread cap before you call. Three rivals, American Hartford Gold, Lear Capital and Preserve Gold, print spread ranges in their contracts; Patriot does not. Look elsewhere too if anyone suggests keeping IRA gold at home.

Patriot Gold Group is a Seal Beach, California precious metals dealer, founded in 2016, that sells gold and silver coins and bars and arranges gold IRAs. It is a seller, not a bank, a fund or an adviser. Its About page says "you'll never pay retail and always work directly with the owners" (September 29, 2026), a company claim. Why does the legal name matter? Court cases, the BBB file and your paperwork can use a different name from the brand.

Halt Gold Group, Patriot Gold Group LLC and "Inc.": the names on the paperwork#

Patriot Gold Group appears under three legal names: one in its risk disclosure, one in its website code and one in two court cases. The three names, and where each appears, are listed below.

  • Risk disclosure (read September 29, 2026): "Patriot Gold Group, LLC".
  • Website schema, the hidden code that search engines read: "Patriot Gold Group, Inc.".
  • Los Angeles Superior Court captions (cases 21STCV30610 and BC670702): "Halt Gold Group, LLC (d/b/a Patriot Gold Group, LLC)".

D/b/a means "doing business as": the brand a company trades under. The BBB lists Patriot as a limited liability company, an LLC. Patriot's pages do not say which of these names signs customer agreements.

When was Patriot Gold Group founded? 2016#

Patriot Gold Group was founded in 2016: the BBB lists March 15, 2016 as its business start, and a 2023 court ruling says it "was founded in April 2016". Claims of an older history come from the company's marketing and from one review site, not from records. LendEDU's review (June 10, 2026) says Patriot has been "in business since 1990". Patriot's IRA page claims "more than 50 years of experience", a company claim that does not say whose years. A rival dealer sued over Patriot's claim to be "a national silver dealer since 1986" (see the court cases below).

Who owns and runs Patriot Gold Group?#

The BBB lists Mike Celano, John Hanney, Charley Chartoff and Alex Orbison as Patriot Gold Group's members, as of September 29, 2026. Patriot's About page names Jack Hanney as chief executive officer, and Mike Celano and Charley Chartoff as senior partners. A 2023 court ruling says six members founded the company in April 2016, including Jacob Blalock, Benjamin Novack and Mike Celano. Blalock and Novack were later removed as members. Ownership shares are not published, and no public record SafeOunce found gives them.

Not the same company: Patriot Gold Corp. and other "Patriot" gold firms#

At least six other gold businesses carry the name "Patriot", and none of them is Patriot Gold Group. On September 29, 2026, four of the top five Google results for "patriot gold reviews" were about them. The six lookalikes, with city and type, are listed below.

  • Patriot Gold Corp. (OTC: PGOL): a gold exploration company, not a dealer.
  • Patriot Trading Group, Phoenix, Arizona: a dealer.
  • The Patriot Gold & Silver Exchange, Corning, California: a store.
  • United Patriot Coin, Seneca, Kansas: a dealer the BBB lists as Not Rated.
  • Patriot Gold & Silver Inc, Mesa, Arizona: a directory listing.
  • "Patriot Gold", Las Vegas, Nevada: a separate BBB profile.

California's financial regulator is the Department of Financial Protection and Innovation (DFPI). It lists an enforcement action dated January 18, 2017 against Patriot Gold and Silver Exchange, Inc. and Norman Ray Ryan (DFPI entry). That is a different company from Patriot Gold Group of Seal Beach.

How a Patriot Gold Group IRA works, step by step#

A Patriot Gold Group IRA works in 5 steps, from opening a custodian account to metal arriving in a vault in your IRA's name. A self-directed IRA is an IRA that can hold assets other than funds, such as metal, and the depository is the vault. The 5 steps are listed below.

  1. Call Patriot and open a self-directed IRA at a custodian it works with. Patriot advertises "Lightning fast 24-hour account setup".
  2. Move money from your current IRA or workplace plan by a direct transfer or a rollover.
  3. Choose coins or bars, and ask for the price per coin, because the product pages show no prices.
  4. Sign the order, and the custodian pays Patriot from your IRA.
  5. Check that the metal reaches a depository and shows on your custodian statement.

The vault step is the law: under 26 U.S.C. 408(m)(3)(B), IRA bullion must be in the "physical possession of a trustee" (26 U.S.C. 408).

Step 2 works best as a gold IRA transfer, straight from one custodian to another. A transfer has no 60-day clock and no once-a-year limit, so ask for one instead of a check made out to you. If a 401(k) pays you by check, the plan must withhold 20% (26 U.S.C. 3405(c)). You then have 60 days to deposit the full amount, adding the missing 20% from other savings, or that part is taxed.

Is Patriot Gold Group a custodian?#

No: Patriot Gold Group is the dealer that sells the metal, while a separate trust company is the custodian that holds your IRA and a vault stores the coins. Custodians are state-chartered trust companies or divisions of banks. The SEC, the federal securities regulator, warns that "self-directed IRA custodians generally do not evaluate the quality or legitimacy of any investment" (SEC investor alert).

Patriot Gold Group's Complaint, Court and Regulator Record#

Patriot Gold Group has zero BBB complaints in three years, two business lawsuits and no regulator action found, as of September 29, 2026. Neither lawsuit was brought by a customer. The table sums up each part of the record with its date and source.

Record item Patriot Gold Group Date and source

DFPI entry for a different company Patriot Gold and Silver Exchange, Inc., January 18, 2017 California DFPI

A clean record is a real strength, and the Patriot Gold Group complaints count is tied for the lowest of the ten sellers in SafeOunce's complaint table. It also reflects a young firm, founded in 2016, and complaint counts grow with sales volume.

BBB and Trustpilot: 0 complaints and 99% five stars, and what that cannot tell you#

Patriot Gold Group has 0 BBB complaints closed in three years on 80 BBB reviews, as of September 29, 2026. On Trustpilot it scores 5.0 from 702 reviews: 99% five-star and 0% one-star. BBB accreditation is a paid membership, and Patriot has held it since April 22, 2022. In the BBB's own rating method, 90 of the 100 points relate to complaints, and customer reviews do not count.

The table compares ten gold IRA sellers by BBB complaints per 100 BBB reviews and Trustpilot five-star share (September 29, 2026).

Company BBB complaints per 100 BBB reviews Trustpilot five-star share
Lear Capital 22.1 89%
American Hartford Gold 13.9 91%
Priority Gold 5.9 93%
Goldco 4.2 89%
Birch Gold 4.0 89%
Preserve Gold 1.6 96%
Noble Gold 1.2 93%
Augusta Precious Metals 0.7 93%
Patriot Gold Group 0.0 99%
Advantage Gold 0.0 (9 reviews) 97%

Counts grow with sales volume, and disputes sent to private arbitration never reach the BBB.

Trustpilot's TrustScore adds seven imaginary 3.5-star reviews to every profile, so 702 near-perfect reviews give 4.98, shown as 5.0. Across the ten sellers, five-star shares run only from 89% to 99%.

Readers notice the pattern: on a public forum in February 2025, one person asked whether Patriot's reviews were "all paid", because they could not find "a single bad one". SafeOunce does not allege that any review is fake; a near-perfect profile simply cannot separate good sellers from average ones. What BBB, BCA and Trustpilot ratings measure, and what they miss, is explained on our ratings guide.

Court cases: two business disputes, no customer case found#

Two Los Angeles Superior Court cases name Patriot Gold Group's operating company: a competitor's false-advertising suit and a dispute between its founders.

Orion Precious Metals, Inc. v. Halt Gold Group, LLC (d/b/a Patriot Gold Group, LLC) and Mike Celano, L.A. Super. Ct. No. 21STCV30610, was filed on August 18, 2021. Orion, a rival dealer, challenged Patriot's claim to be "a national silver dealer since 1986". A tentative ruling of September 21, 2023 says: "The Court DENIES Defendants' motion for summary judgment."

The tentative ruling granted summary adjudication on only one claim, interference with contractual relations. Orion's evidence, as the ruling describes it, tied at least $124,000 of Patriot's sales to ten customers who heard the claim.

Blalock et al. v. Halt Gold Group, LLC, d/b/a Patriot Gold Group LLC, L.A. Super. Ct. No. BC670702, was filed in 2017. Two of the six founding members, removed "for cause", sued over the company's operating agreement. The Court of Appeal (Second District, Division 4) reportedly reversed a summary judgment in part on December 15, 2023 and sent the case back. Docket listings report that the trial court then split the trial into two parts on February 1, 2024.

No customer lawsuit, fraud judgment or arbitration award against Patriot was found in searches on September 29, 2026. A third listed case, McGaughy v. Patriot Gold Group LLC, is an employment case.

Regulator actions: none found#

SafeOunce found no CFTC, SEC or state regulator action against Patriot Gold Group or Halt Gold Group in searches on September 29, 2026. The CFTC is the federal commodities regulator. It brings fraud cases against some metals dealers, although retail metal dealers are not regulated at the federal level. The 2017 California DFPI entry concerns a different company. Regulator actions can take years to become public, so check again before you buy.

Every case SafeOunce tracks is in our list of precious metals IRA enforcement actions.

Awards and "#1" claims: ConsumerAffairs, Money and review sites#

Patriot's pages call it the "#1 Gold IRA Dealer in America" and cite ConsumerAffairs awards, but the award years differ from page to page. Money's October 2026 list of gold IRA companies, published September 25, 2026, leaves Patriot out for "scare tactics".

The table shows the ConsumerAffairs "Top Rated" years on three Patriot pages read September 29, 2026.

RetirementLiving rates Patriot 4.6 in its best list (read September 29, 2026), with no spread figure for any company. How gold IRA review sites earn money from the companies they rate is explained on our reviews guide.

Patriot Gold Group's Paperwork: What Is Public and What Is Not#

Patriot Gold Group publishes a one-page risk disclosure but no customer agreement, so its cancellation window, buyback formula, dispute rules and markup cannot be checked before you call. Three rivals publish their company contracts in full. The table compares what four sellers put in writing, from documents read on September 29, 2026.

Fiduciary duty Disclaimed Disclaimed Disclaimed Not stated

Arbitration means a private judge instead of a court; JAMS is one arbitration firm. Other sellers' contract terms are compared on gold IRA company contracts.

The risk disclosure: no fiduciary duty, hold 3 to 5 years, keep metals under 20%#

Patriot's risk disclosure says it is not your fiduciary and that buyers should plan to hold metals "for at least three to five years". It also says metals should be "no more than twenty percent" of your investable money. A fiduciary is someone legally bound to act in your best interest. The disclosure makes three points, each quoted below.

This candor is a strength. Why most gold IRA salespeople are not your fiduciary is explained in our glossary.

Cancellation, delivery and disputes: not published#

Patriot does not publish how long you have to cancel, when your metal will be delivered, or how a dispute would be handled, as of September 29, 2026. For financed metal sales, the CFTC requires "actual delivery" within 28 days (release 8215-20, 2020), and SafeOunce uses 28 days as a benchmark. In consumer arbitration, your filing fee is capped at $225 at the American Arbitration Association (AAA) or $250 at JAMS.

Patriot's privacy policy says every call is "subject to monitoring and/or recording". Four questions to ask before paying are listed below.

  • Ask how many days you have to cancel, and from when.
  • Ask for the delivery date to the depository in writing.
  • Ask whether disputes go to arbitration, where, and who pays.
  • Ask for the signed agreement and invoice by email before you pay.

What cancellation, arbitration and restitution can do is explained on how to get your money back from a gold IRA company.

Patriot Gold Group Minimum Investment: $25,000 for an IRA, Not $50,000#

Patriot Gold Group's minimum is $25,000 for a gold IRA and $10,000 for a cash purchase, according to its own landing page read on September 29, 2026. The page asks visitors to confirm: "I understand that PGG has a minimum investment amount of: $10,000 Simple Cash Purchase and $25,000 IRA." Its main IRA page shows no amount. The table shows what each source says.

Source Minimum shown Date
patriotgoldgroup.com/p/yt-lc/ (landing page) $25,000 IRA; $10,000 cash purchase Read Sept. 29, 2026
patriotgoldgroup.com/precious-metal-ira/ "(Minimum Account Required)", no amount Read Sept. 29, 2026
LendEDU review $25,000 IRA; $10,000 first purchase, $1,500 after June 10, 2026
Money review "$50,000 minimum deposit" Nov. 28, 2023 (updated Feb. 7, 2024)
RetirementLiving review "$50,000 minimum investment" Undated (read Sept. 29, 2026)

The $50,000 figure comes from Money's 2023 review and RetirementLiving, not from Patriot's current pages. The IRS sets no minimum.

The IRS does cap new savings: the 2026 IRA contribution limit is $7,500, plus $1,100 at age 50 or older (IRS Notice 2025-67). That is why most gold IRAs of this size start with a rollover or transfer. Every published figure is compared on gold IRA minimums by company.

Patriot Gold Group Fees and the "No Fees for Life" IRA#

Patriot Gold Group publishes no dollar fees; instead it offers "No Fees for Life on Qualifying IRAs", without saying how much you must invest to qualify. Review sites print setup fees of $200 to $250 and yearly fees of $150 to $250 for smaller accounts, but those are their figures, not Patriot's.

A custodian fee is the yearly charge for running the IRA, and a storage fee is the vault charge. The table lists the fee figures other sites attribute to Patriot; Patriot's own pages show none (September 29, 2026).

Source Setup Yearly When waived Date
Money $225 Storage $250 first year, $200 after "If funding criteria met" Nov. 28, 2023 (updated Feb. 7, 2024)
LendEDU $200-$250 (waivable) $250 under $50,000 and $250 at $50,000-$99,999 $0 at $100,000+ ("waived for life") June 10, 2026
RetirementLiving $225 under $30,000 Storage and insurance: STRATA $150, Equity Institutional $180 All IRA fees waived over $100,000; "No Fee for Life" over $250,000 Undated

RetirementLiving also says Patriot reimburses a "$260 first-year rollover fee". How these compare with every custodian and seller is on gold IRA fees.

What "No Fees for Life" covers, and what it leaves out#

Patriot's pages say the program removes storage, insurance, shipping, setup and rollover fees "for the life of your account". None of them says who pays to sell, move or close the account. The No Fees page covers annual storage and insurance fees on qualifying IRAs. The landing page lists five promises with no footnotes, shown below.

  • "No Fees For Storage"
  • "No Fees For Shipping"
  • "No New Rollover Fees"
  • "No New Account Set Up Fees"
  • "No Fees For the Life Of Your Account"

Four things are not mentioned on any Patriot page read on September 29, 2026, as listed below.

  • The qualifying amount.
  • The custodian's annual fee, by name.
  • Exit costs: selling, transferring out, an in-kind distribution or closing.
  • What happens if your balance falls below the threshold.

An in-kind distribution means taking the coins out of the IRA instead of cash. Exit fees are real: Equity Trust's metals-only schedule charges $30 per sale, $125 per in-kind distribution or transfer out, and $250 to close. STRATA Trust charges $75 per trade and $250 to close (fee page, August 31, 2026).

Patriot's program is one of at least seven gold IRA fee waivers SafeOunce has found. Every no-fee gold IRA offer is priced on our fee-waiver page.

Who qualifies: four sources, three thresholds#

Four sources give three different answers on who qualifies for "No Fees for Life". The four sources, with dates, are listed below.

  • Patriot (September 29, 2026): "Qualifying IRAs" and "(Minimum Account Required)".
  • LendEDU (June 10, 2026): annual fee "$0 (waived for life)" at $100,000 or more.
  • RetirementLiving (undated): "All IRA fees are waived for accounts over $100,000"; "No Fee for Life IRA" for accounts over "$250,000".
  • Money (2023): no fees "if funding criteria met".

Ask Patriot for the qualifying amount, the fees covered and the exit fees in one email before you move money.

What the fee waiver is worth over 10 years#

At published custodian prices, Patriot's fee waiver is worth about $2,900 to $3,300 over ten years with segregated storage, or 2.9% to 3.3% of a $100,000 account. Segregated storage keeps your own coins apart from other people's. The table prices the yearly fees Patriot says it covers, using two custodians' own schedules (September 29, 2026).

Custodian schedule Setup Yearly (admin + segregated storage) 10 years
Equity Trust metals-only (FS-0004-05 Rev. 081726) $50 $125 + $160 = $285 $2,900
STRATA Trust (fee page modified Aug. 31, 2026) $50, waived with e-signature $150 + $175 = $325 $3,250 ($3,300 with setup)

Patriot does not name its custodian; RetirementLiving lists STRATA and Equity Institutional among others. Exit fees excluded.

On $25,000, $285 a year equals 1.14% of the balance every year. That is why a waiver matters more for small accounts, if they qualify. Equity Trust's four fee schedules are explained on our page about Equity Trust fees.

The Cost Patriot Gold Group Does Not Publish: Prices and Spread#

Patriot Gold Group shows no prices on its product pages, so the largest cost of a Patriot IRA, the spread on the coins, appears only on your invoice.

Each product page offers only "Add to Quote" and "VIEW QUOTE REQUEST" buttons (September 29, 2026). Patriot's No Fees page promises "investor-direct pricing" and "some of the fairest, closest-to-spot pricing", a company claim. A written quote is the only way to test that.

Patriot is not alone in hiding its spread. Of 15 operating sellers SafeOunce checked, only 4 publish a spread range and 1 publishes live prices (September 29, 2026). In its 2024 "10 Things" warning, the CFTC says spreads at fraudulent dealers can top 300 percent, while other dealers' spreads are under 20 percent. Every published spread range is on gold IRA markups and spreads.

How much gold must rise before you break even#

At a 20% spread, gold must rise about 31% before a customer who sells back gets back to even. The extra rise is needed because a dealer's buyback price, called the bid, sits below its own cost. The table shows the rise needed at four spreads.

Spread Rise to reach dealer cost Rise including the buyback gap
5% 5.3% 10.4%
10% 11.1% 16.6%
20% 25.0% 31.1%
30% 42.9% 49.9%

Illustration using the industry buyback template (bid 4.69% below dealer cost; Lear terms Dec. 2025, Preserve agreement June 2025). Patriot's own spread and bid are not published.

This is why Patriot's own disclosure tells buyers to plan on holding "three to five years". Test your own quote in the gold IRA break-even calculator.

When "no fees" beats paying fees: the 8% spread test#

Patriot's no-fee IRA beats a plain-bullion IRA with $2,900 of fees over ten years only if Patriot's spread is about 8% or less. That holds when the other seller's spread is 5%. The test compares two routes for $100,000, with the metal price flat.

Assumptions: metal price flat; fees from Equity Trust's metals-only schedule; exit fees excluded for both routes; the 5% bullion spread is an illustration. SD Bullion's retail round trip on a 1-ounce Gold Eagle was 5.39% (September 29, 2026 snapshot), so the model is conservative for plain bullion.

Run the same check on any written quote, using the spot value on the quote date.

What a $100,000 Patriot Gold Group IRA Costs: Year 1 and 10 Years#

A $100,000 Patriot IRA that qualifies for "No Fees for Life" costs $0 in published account fees, but its spread can cost $9,453 to $33,281. That range covers spreads of 5% to 30% if you sell back, before any exit fees. The first table shows account fees in two cases: the account qualifies for the program, or it does not.

Cost Case A: qualifies, year 1 Case A: 10 years Case B: does not qualify, year 1 Case B: 10 years
Setup $0 $0 $50 $50
Yearly fees $0 $0 $285 $2,850
Total account fees $0 $0 $335 $2,900
Exit fees Not stated by Patriot (example: $280 to sell and close at Equity Trust's metals-only schedule) Same $280 at the same schedule Same
Dealer spread on purchase Not published Not published Not published Not published

Case B is priced at Equity Trust's metals-only schedule (Rev. 081726) with segregated storage.

A $100,000 gold IRA's total cost depends far more on the spread than on the fees. The second table adds the spread and buyback gap to Case A, with the metal price held flat.

Spread Day-one sale value Spread + buyback-gap loss + 10 years of fees (Case A) 10-year total cost % of $100,000
5% $90,547 $9,453 $0 $9,453 9.5%
10% $85,781 $14,219 $0 $14,219 14.2%
20% $76,250 $23,750 $0 $23,750 23.8%
30% $66,719 $33,281 $0 $33,281 33.3%

Ten years of fees can be $0, and the total cost can still pass $23,000 at a 20% spread. Run your own amount in the gold IRA fee calculator.

The year one shock shows up on your first statement. Equity Trust says its statement values "do not include any markups, commissions or premiums from the precious metals dealer". At a 20% spread, a $100,000 purchase shows as about $80,000 of metal.

Why your first gold IRA statement shows less than you paid is explained on our statement guide.

Taking money out later adds costs the waiver may not reach. Withdrawals before age 59 1/2 usually owe a 10% additional tax on top of income tax (26 U.S.C. 72(t)). From age 73 (born 1951-1958) or 75 (born 1960 or later), you must take a required minimum distribution (RMD) from a traditional IRA each year. A missed RMD costs a 25% excise tax, or 10% if corrected in time (26 U.S.C. 4974).

Patriot Gold Group's Free Silver Offer, Costed#

Patriot's landing page offers "$10,000 or more in FREE Silver" and "up to 10% back" on qualified accounts, without published terms. Its site also offers a "Free Silver Coin With Phone Qualification". The value of any bonus depends on the price of the metal you must buy to get it. The landing page (September 29, 2026) shows three lines about the offer.

The 10% bonus leaves you ahead only if the metal you buy carries a spread of about 13% or less. The table values $100,000 of metal plus a 10% silver bonus at the buyback bid on day one, against $100,000 of plain bullion with no bonus (hypothetical spreads).

Route Spread assumed Day-one value
Bonus route 30% on the metal; bonus silver at 20% $66,719 + $7,625 = $74,344
Bonus route 13% on the metal; bonus silver at 20% $82,922 + $7,625 = $90,547
Plain bullion, no bonus 5% $90,547

At a 30% spread, the bonus route ends $16,203 behind plain bullion on day one. Silver bonus valued at a 20% silver spread; metal price flat.

The FTC's Guide Concerning Use of the Word "Free" is 16 CFR 251.1. Section 251.1(b)(1) says a seller should not recover the cost of a free item by raising the price of what you must buy (16 CFR 251). Patriot does not publish its prices, so buyers cannot check this.

If Patriot's prices are as close to spot as it says, the bonus is real value. Ask for the per-coin price before you accept it. How other sellers fund free silver gold IRA promotions is explained on our promotions guide.

Patriot Gold Group Buyback: What "Highest Price Buy Back Guarantee" Means#

Patriot's landing page advertises a "Highest price Buy Back Guarantee", but it does not say highest compared with what. No Patriot page read on September 29, 2026 says how the price is set or how fast you are paid. The line has no footnote. Patriot's risk disclosure has no buyback section, and no customer agreement is public.

Other sellers' contracts say the opposite of a guarantee. American Hartford Gold's 2026 agreement says "applicable laws currently prohibit AHG from guaranteeing to repurchase" metal. Lear, Preserve, Goldline and American Bullion agreements carry the same line. In the industry, a buyback price is usually the "highest list bid" of a wholesale dealer, which sits below what you paid.

Ask Patriot what it would pay for the same coins tomorrow, and get the answer in writing. What each seller's contract actually says is on gold IRA buyback programs compared.

Home Storage: What Patriot's About Page Says and What the Tax Code Says#

Patriot's About page says it helps clients who prefer "keeping their gold metals at home", but IRA gold must stay with a trustee. Taking IRA gold home counts as a taxable withdrawal. The About page, re-read on September 29, 2026, says this.

The tax code settles the IRA side. Under 26 U.S.C. 408(m)(3)(B), bullion is allowed in an IRA only "if such bullion is in the physical possession of a trustee". In McNulty v. Commissioner, 157 T.C. No. 10 (November 18, 2021), the Tax Court treated coins an IRA owner kept at home as distributions, taxed on their cost.

The sentence may refer to non-IRA purchases, which you may keep at home; the page does not say so. LendEDU's review states that Patriot offers home storage for non-IRA metals only (June 10, 2026).

The court case and the rule are covered on home storage gold IRA.

Patriot Gold Group Products: Bullion, Proof Coins and Errors on Its Gold Eagle Page#

Patriot sells gold and silver bullion coins and bars plus proof and limited-mintage coins, and it shows a price for none of them online. A proof coin has a specially struck collector finish, and a limited mintage is a small production run sold at a higher price. The three product types, with the IRA rule for each, are listed below.

  • Bullion coins and bars: the American Gold Eagle is eligible by name under 26 U.S.C. 408(m)(3)(A); bars need .995 gold under 408(m)(3)(B).
  • Proof and limited-mintage coins: for example the Royal Canadian Mint Gold Polar Bear & Cub, 1/4 oz (7.775 grams), .9999 gold, mintage 2,000. Custodians decide which ones they accept.
  • Silver: the 1-ounce Silver Eagle and .999 silver bars.

Reports differ on platinum and palladium: LendEDU says Patriot sells neither, and RetirementLiving says it sells both.

Patriot's Gold Eagle page (September 29, 2026) contains three errors. It lists "99.9% Gold" and "91.67% Gold, 3% Silver, Balance Copper" on the same page. It gives a diameter of "1.598 inches (40.60 mm)", which is the Silver Eagle's size; the 1-ounce Gold Eagle is 32.7 mm (1.287 inches) under 31 U.S.C. 5112(a)(7). It also says the coin "dates back to 1792" and was discontinued in 1933, while the American Eagle bullion program began in 1986. The Polar Bear & Cub page still contains "Lorem Ipsum" placeholder text.

The Gold Eagle page does give the correct 91.67% gold content and the 1986 restart. The correct specifications are on American Gold Eagle in an IRA.

What custodians accept for proof coins in an IRA is on our proof coin page.

For an IRA, ask for 1-ounce bullion coins or bars and the percent over spot for each. The CFTC calls "semi-numismatic" "a made-up industry term".

Patriot Gold Group Custodians and Depositories#

Patriot's website names no custodian or depository, as of September 29, 2026. It says only that metals are stored in "private, segregated, and fully insured vaults", with insurance from Lloyd's of London, a company claim.

RetirementLiving lists six custodians, including Kingdom Trust, which stopped acting as a custodian on January 24, 2024. Its other five are STRATA Trust, Equity Institutional, Entrust, New Direction IRA and GoldStar Trust.

RetirementLiving puts a STRATA trade at "$40 plus shipping", but STRATA's own fee page (August 31, 2026) totals $75: $40 plus $35 for depository handling. LendEDU and RetirementLiving also call the vaults or custodians "IRS-approved". The IRS approves none; 26 U.S.C. 408(m)(3)(B) only requires that a trustee hold the metal. Every custodian's charter and fees are compared on gold IRA custodians.

Vault insurance has limits. It pays metal value, not the premium you paid, and FDIC and SIPC insurance never cover IRA metal. The three questions to ask Patriot are listed below.

  • Which custodian, and may I choose another?
  • Which depository, and is the account titled to my IRA?
  • Is storage segregated, and does "No Fees for Life" cover it for as long as I hold?

Vault insurance and locations are compared on gold IRA depositories.

Patriot Gold Group Pros and Cons#

Patriot's six strengths are its clean complaint record and its candid risk disclosure; its six weaknesses are the prices, terms and facts it does not put in writing. The table lists both, as of September 29, 2026.

Pros Cons
0 BBB complaints in 3 years; A+ since 2022 No coin prices or spread published
No regulator action found No customer agreement or buyback terms public
No customer lawsuit found "No Fees for Life" threshold and exit fees not stated
$25,000 IRA minimum stated on its own landing page Three legal-name forms
Account fees waived on qualifying IRAs Home-storage wording on the About page
Risk disclosure states no fiduciary duty, a 3-5 year hold and a 20% ceiling Errors and placeholder text on product pages

Who Patriot Gold Group Suits, and Who Should Walk Away#

Patriot Gold Group suits a buyer moving $100,000 or more who qualifies for "No Fees for Life", buys plain bullion and gets a written spread of 8% or less. It does not suit anyone below the $25,000 IRA minimum on its landing page, or anyone who wants a signed agreement with a spread cap before calling. The table gives a verdict by reader situation, as of September 29, 2026.

If you... Verdict Why
Have under $25,000 Look elsewhere Below the IRA minimum on Patriot's landing page (Sept. 29, 2026). A low-cost gold fund in an existing IRA costs less. For balances under $25,000, see gold IRA vs gold ETF
Have $25,000-$99,999 Compare first Fees may not be waived: LendEDU (June 10, 2026) says $250 a year below $100,000, or 0.25%-1.0% a year. Compare the quote with a seller that publishes its fees
Have $100,000+ and are offered no fees and free silver Worth it only with a low written spread Needs a written spread of about 8% or less (no-fee test) and 13% or less (bonus test)
Want written terms first Ask, then decide Ask for the agreement, cancellation window and buyback formula before any call ends. If Patriot will not send them, walk away
Are thinking about home storage Do not do it with IRA metal McNulty v. Commissioner (2021): IRA coins kept at home are taxed as a withdrawal
Are 73 or older, or soon will be Ask about RMD costs first Each yearly RMD means selling metal ($30 a sale) or taking coins ($125 each) at Equity Trust's metals-only schedule; Patriot does not say "No Fees for Life" covers either
Need the money within 5 years Look elsewhere At a 20% spread gold must rise about 31% to break even; Patriot's own disclosure says hold 3-5 years

Ask Patriot these five questions before you move any money.

  1. Ask for the price per coin and the percent over spot for each item.
  2. Ask for the exact amount that qualifies for "No Fees for Life", and which fees it covers, including selling and closing.
  3. Ask what Patriot would pay for the same coins tomorrow.
  4. Ask for the customer agreement and invoice by email before paying.
  5. Ask which custodian and depository it uses, and which legal company signs the agreement.

How SafeOunce Rates Patriot Gold Group#

SafeOunce rates Patriot Gold Group on 7 criteria worth 100 points, from documents and a written price quote, and any item Patriot does not disclose scores zero. The rating card above is computed from methodology version 1.0, not written by hand. It shows "Rating pending" until SafeOunce has Patriot's written quote, customer agreement and "No Fees for Life" terms. How Does Patriot Gold Group Compare With Other Gold IRA Companies?#

Patriot ties for the cleanest complaint record of the ten gold IRA sellers in SafeOunce's complaint table, but it publishes less about fees and prices than most of them. The table compares Patriot with five rivals on the same four fields, as of September 29, 2026.

Company IRA minimum Account fees published Spread range published BBB complaints per 100 reviews
Patriot Gold Group $25,000 (landing page) No ("No Fees for Life", threshold unpublished) No 0.0
Goldco $25,000 Yes ($275 a year, segregated) No 4.2
Birch Gold $5,000 About $235 a year No 4.0
Noble Gold $20,000 Yes, but two pages disagree ($80 + $275 a year, or $50 + $285 a year) No 1.2
American Hartford Gold Not published No Yes: bullion up to 19.99%; other coins up to 39.99% or 59.99% 13.9
Preserve Gold Not published Waiver up to 5 years Yes: bullion up to 20%; IRA up to 34.99% 1.6

Which gold IRA companies are the best in 2026? No company is best for everyone: the right one depends on your balance, the metal you buy and the terms you can get in writing. Rankings by real cost are on best gold IRA companies.

Patriot's no-fee offer vs other gold IRA fee waivers#

Patriot is one of at least seven gold IRA sellers with a fee waiver, and the only one offering a lifetime waiver with no published qualifying amount. Seven gold IRA fee waivers are listed below (September 29, 2026).

  • U.S. Money Reserve: up to $300 a year for life; $200,000 rollover, at least 60% proof coins (effective April 1, 2026).
  • Augusta Precious Metals: "up to 10 years of custodian and depository fees paid by Augusta", conditions not stated (FAQ, updated September 23, 2026).
  • Preserve Gold: up to 5 years, by investment size.
  • GoldenCrest: free storage 5 years ($50,000-$100,000) or 10 years (over $100,000).
  • American Bullion: first year free with $50,000.
  • Birch Gold: first-year fees paid over $50,000.
  • Patriot Gold Group: "No Fee For Life", threshold unpublished.

The closest match, a lifetime fee offer with a $200,000 threshold, is covered in our U.S. Money Reserve review.

Patriot Gold Group's spokespeople, TV ads and the fear pitch#

Patriot's homepage features Dick Morris, whom it calls a political advisor and Newsmax host, as an endorser and client (September 29, 2026). Its TV ads carry titles such as "Stock Market Losses and Tariffs" and "Silver: Trade of the Decade" (iSpot.tv). The homepage headline reads "AMERICA FACES UNPRECEDENTED ECONOMIC UNCERTAINTY".

The CFTC's 2024 "Metals IRA Lies" flier warns in general that fraudulent dealers "target their ads to political or religious programming just to gain your trust" (CFTC flier). This is a general warning, not an allegation against Patriot. Who endorses which seller is tracked on celebrity gold IRA endorsements.

A fear pitch warns that your savings could be frozen, seized or wiped out, so you should move them into metal now.

Whether your IRA or 401(k) can really be frozen is answered on the fear pitch gold sellers use.

Does Patriot Gold Group pay review sites?#

Yes: Patriot runs an affiliate program on the Everflow platform, but it publishes no terms or payment amounts, as of September 29, 2026. Its signup form asks websites for a "Referral Code" and to "Describe the sites and methods used to advertise". LendEDU, which reviews Patriot, discloses that "Many or all companies we feature compensate us".

For the other side of the ledger, see who pays SafeOunce.

Is Patriot Gold Group a publicly traded company?#

No: Patriot Gold Group is a private company; the "PGOL" stock belongs to Patriot Gold Corp., a separate gold exploration company. Check the name before you act on any stock quote.

Does Patriot Gold Group sell gold outside an IRA?#

Yes: Patriot sells coins and bars for cash purchases, with a $10,000 minimum according to its own landing page (September 29, 2026). Gold you buy outside an IRA is yours to store where you like.

What does Dave Ramsey say about investing in gold?#

Dave Ramsey advises against gold as a long-term investment, and his team argues it has lagged the stock market over long periods. Ramsey Solutions (updated March 19, 2026) says metals "don't produce anything, they don't pay dividends, and they don't earn interest". Our guide explains why Dave Ramsey says no to gold, and Warren Buffett's case, for IRA savers.

What is the downside of a gold IRA with Patriot Gold Group?#

The main downside is cost you cannot see in advance: Patriot publishes no spread, and gold pays no interest or dividends. At a 20% spread, gold must rise about 31% before you break even. The general case is on gold IRA pros and cons.
