Thor Metals Group Review 2026: Gold IRA Fees, Minimums, Pros and Cons

Thor Metals Group checked Oct. 2026: BBB grade F while its site claims an A, 6 of 12 one-star reviews allege missing metal, no fees published. What to do now.

Key takeaways

  • Thor Metals Group is a real, operating company, but its 2026 record gives a careful buyer three reasons to wait.
  • Four claims on Thor's homepage do not match the public records SafeOunce read on October 2, 2026.
  • Thor Metals Group is a precious metals dealer that sells gold, silver and platinum coins and bars and arranges gold IRAs.
  • Twelve Trustpilot reviewers gave Thor one star between February and September 2026.
  • One federal lawsuit names Thor Metals Group LLC, a copyright claim by Dow Jones that is still pending, and SafeOunce found no regulator action, as of October 2, 2026.

Thor Metals Group is an operating gold IRA seller, legally Thor Metals Group LLC of El Segundo, California. Its website claims a BBB "A rating" while the BBB page shows an F (October 2, 2026). In 2026, 6 of 12 one-star Trustpilot reviews allege that metal the customer paid for was not delivered, or only partly delivered, to the vault. Those reports are unverified, and the count is from October 2, 2026. So two questions matter. Can you trust what Thor says about itself? And how do you confirm that metal you paid for is really in your IRA?

A gold IRA is an IRA that holds physical gold through a custodian. A depository is the vault that stores IRA metal. This Thor Metals Group review sets the company's claims beside the records, then shows who the company is and what the 2026 reviews allege. It covers the one lawsuit, the regulator search, a 5-step delivery check, the website terms, the costs Thor does not publish and who should wait. Thor is one of the gold IRA companies SafeOunce checks against the same records, contract terms and cost questions. Most values on this page are as of October 2, 2026.

The 13 facts below come from Thor's website, the BBB, Trustpilot and the federal court docket, each dated. The last row links to Thor's own site.

Is Thor Metals Group Legit? Our Verdict#

Thor Metals Group is a real, operating company, but its 2026 record gives a careful buyer three reasons to wait. They are a BBB grade it misstates, a cluster of unresolved non-delivery complaints, and costs it does not publish. "Real" means three things here. Thor has a BBB profile, a live website and a place on a federal court docket as a named defendant. The BBB is the Better Business Bureau, a private nonprofit that grades how firms handle complaints.

Is Thor Metals Group legit in the sense that matters to your money? The records do not settle it. The BBB lists Thor's start as July 13, 2023, and grades it F (October 2, 2026). Twelve one-star Trustpilot reviews are dated February to September 2026. Six allege non-delivery or partial delivery, on SafeOunce's count of October 2, 2026. SafeOunce cannot verify the reviewers' accounts, and no regulator has acted. The reports are specific, recent and unanswered on Trustpilot. That is why this review treats them as a warning sign and not as a finding.

What should you do with that? A new buyer should wait until the delivery complaints are answered and Thor puts its prices in writing. A reader who has already paid should check delivery now, using the 5 steps below. The one lawsuit found is a copyright claim, not a customer case, and Thor's fees, minimum and markup are not published.

Thor's Claims vs the Records: a BBB "A Rating" on Its Site, an F on the BBB Page#

Four claims on Thor's homepage do not match the public records SafeOunce read on October 2, 2026. The clearest is the BBB grade: the site says A, the BBB says F. The claims vs records table sets each claim on thormetalsgroup.com beside the record for it.

Claim on Thor's homepage Record Date and source
"We have an 'A rating' with the BBB" BBB F, not accredited, 5 complaints closed in 3 years. The BBB's stated reason: "Failure to respond to 4 complaint(s) filed against business" BBB profile, October 2, 2026
"We have a '5-star Rating' with TrustLink" Trustpilot (profile "TMG INVESTMENTS GROUP"): 2.3 from 46 reviews, 26% one-star, no replies to negative reviews Trustpilot, October 2, 2026
"Voted the 'Best Overall Gold IRA' Company & the 'Best Gold and Silver' Company of 2025" The page does not name who voted thormetalsgroup.com, October 2, 2026
"20+ Years Combined Experience", "100M In Metals Sold" Business start July 13, 2023; no source given for the sales figure BBB profile; thormetalsgroup.com, October 2, 2026

Why does Thor Metals say "BBB A rating" when the BBB shows F?#

SafeOunce does not know why: Thor's homepage still said "A rating" on October 2, 2026, and the BBB profile for Thor Metals Group LLC showed F on the same day. A grade can fall after a claim was written, so the BBB A rating may once have been true. The directory bullion.directory showed "A-" in November 2024. What matters is that the site was not corrected.

How does the BBB build a grade? Of 100 positive points, 90 relate to complaints, and unanswered complaints carry 40 of them (BBB, "Overview of BBB Ratings", read September 29, 2026). Customer reviews are not used. The BBB profile gives one reason for Thor's F: "Failure to respond to 4 complaint(s) filed against business" (read October 2, 2026).

Open the BBB page yourself. The grade is at the top; the date matters. What a grade does and does not measure is on our page asking whether BBB ratings are reliable for gold IRA companies.

"Best Overall Gold IRA Company of 2025": who voted?#

Thor's homepage says it was "voted" best overall gold IRA company of 2025 but does not name who voted. Thor's IRA kit landing page (SafeOunce earns nothing from this link.) names a source for a different year: "Voted the Best Overall Gold IRA Company in 2024 by Breitbart" (read October 2, 2026). The Breitbart page it links to, dated October 30, 2024, opens with the line "The following content is sponsored by Money.com". It lists Thor as "Best Overall" and does not describe a vote. A separate title, "Precious Metals IRA Company of the Year 2025", comes from Financial Services Review, a trade magazine. That magazine's profile says it is "based on insights from an interview with Brandon Thor, CEO". The page carries no statement about payment (read October 2, 2026).

A press release on PRWeb announced the title on July 9, 2025. Its listed source is Outsource Marketing Group, Inc., on behalf of Thor.

"20+ years combined experience" and "$100M in metals sold" at a company started in 2023#

The BBB lists Thor's business start as July 13, 2023, so the "20+ years" on its homepage is the staff's combined experience, not the company's age. Thor's about page (read October 2, 2026) says its CEO has "more than 14 years of experience in precious metals". It says he worked at two other gold IRA sellers and "managed a portfolio of over $200 million in assets". These are company claims that SafeOunce has not confirmed. The homepage also says "100M In Metals Sold". SafeOunce found no document that supports or contradicts the figure.

What review sites still say about Thor, and what changed in 2026#

Three review sites that rank for Thor's name still print ratings the live records no longer show. The table compares what each page says with the record on October 2, 2026.

Page (date) What it says Record on October 2, 2026
LendEDU (February 9, 2026) Trustpilot "4.7/5 (36 reviews)" 2.3 from 46 reviews; all 12 one-star reviews are dated after February 9, 2026
USA Today (updated May 15, 2026) "A rating with accreditation"; Trustpilot 4.8 BBB F, not accredited; Trustpilot 2.3
RetirementLiving (October 2025) "A-rated, accredited"; "No significant complaints" BBB F; 5 BBB complaints; 12 one-star reviews in 2026

Each of these pages may have been right on the day it was written. Most of the 2026 one-star reviews came later, and the pages still print the old figures. LendEDU also prints a BBB "5/5". That is the average of 2 customer reviews, not the BBB grade.

Review sites that are paid by the companies they rank have less reason to update a good score. How gold IRA reviews are paid for, and how to spot a paid ranking, is on our review-sites guide.

Thor Metals Group is a precious metals dealer that sells gold, silver and platinum coins and bars and arranges gold IRAs. It operates as Thor Metals Group LLC from El Segundo, California. A dealer is the firm that sells you the metal. It is not the custodian and not the vault. Thor's site offers a gold IRA and a silver IRA, and the BBB lists its start as July 13, 2023.

Why does the legal name matter? Complaints, court cases and your invoice use the legal name, not the brand.

Thor Metals Group LLC and "TMG Investments Group": the names to check#

Thor appears under two names: the BBB and the federal docket list Thor Metals Group LLC, and its Trustpilot profile is titled "TMG INVESTMENTS GROUP". A reader who searches Trustpilot for the brand can think the profile belongs to a different firm. Thor's own website terms and FAQ shorten the name to "TMG".

Search both names, plus "TMG", when you check records and when you read your invoice. The step-by-step way to check a gold IRA company by its legal name is on our verification guide.

Who is the CEO of Thor Metals Group?#

The BBB names Brandon Anthony Thor as CEO and Mitch Salchow as President of Thor Metals Group LLC, as of October 2, 2026. Thor's about page (read October 2, 2026) says the CEO holds an "MBA and Juris Doctorate from the University of Southern California". SafeOunce has not confirmed that claim. Thor does not publish who owns the LLC, so ownership is not established.

El Segundo, California or Boca Raton, Florida: two addresses in circulation#

Thor's website terms give 400 Continental Blvd, Suite 140, El Segundo, California, and the BBB lists El Segundo, while two other pages list an office in Boca Raton, Florida. The directory bullion.directory (November 2024) prints "433 Plaza Real, Suite 275, Boca Raton, FL 33432" with the phone number 866-788-7684. LendEDU (February 9, 2026) says Thor is "Based in Boca Raton, Florida". Thor's own site shows the phone number 844-944-THOR (read October 2, 2026).

SafeOunce does not judge which address is current. Ask Thor in writing which address is on its invoices. Send any written complaint by a method that gives you proof of delivery.

Thor Metals Group Complaints: 12 Low-Star Reviews in 2026 and What They Allege#

Twelve Trustpilot reviewers gave Thor one star between February and September 2026. Six of them allege that metal they paid for was not delivered, or only partly delivered, to the depository. These are the reviewers' own statements. SafeOunce has not verified them. No reply from Thor is shown under any of the 12 on Trustpilot (October 2, 2026).

The count of 6 is from a re-read of all 12 reviews on October 2, 2026. The six were posted between May 18 and September 28, 2026. A seventh review, posted April 7, 2026, alleges that Thor "never provided proof of deposit" at the depository 9 months after the purchase. It is not counted, because it does not say the metal is missing. One of the 12, posted September 11, 2026, describes a crypto trading platform and a paid "recovery" firm, not a Thor purchase. It is not counted either.

Two terms help here. The depository is the vault. The custodian is the trust company that legally holds the IRA and sends your statements. Reviewers say the custodian or the vault had no record of their metal. The table counts what the 12 Thor Metals Group complaints allege; one review can fall in more than one row.

What the review alleges Reviews (of 12)
Metal not delivered, or partly delivered, to the depository 6
Return or withdrawal of funds requested and not paid or not answered 3
IRA money sent to an "escrow account" 2
Company cited an "FBI investigation" as the reason for delay 2
Overcharging 1
Complaint filed with a state securities regulator 1
No proof of deposit provided 9 months after the purchase 1
Review about a crypto trading platform that promotes a paid "recovery" firm (not a Thor purchase) 1

Reviewers name sums of $95,000 and $195,000. SafeOunce cannot confirm either. One earlier case ended better: LendEDU's review (February 9, 2026) reports a shipping-delay complaint that ended in a refund.

Metal not delivered to the depository: 6 of 12 reviews#

The most common complaint is the same story told six times: the IRA money left, and months later the reviewer says the metal, or part of it, had not reached the custodian account or the vault. Reviewers describe waits of about 5 months, about 8 months and "almost a year". The April review that alleges no proof of deposit speaks of 9 months. The reviews name The Entrust Group as custodian and Delaware Depository as the vault. The table shows when the 12 one-star reviews were posted.

Month (2026) Low-star reviews
February 1
April 1
May 1
July 1
August 3
September 5

Eight of the 12 were posted in August and September 2026, so the pattern is recent. That is a count by date, not the 6 that allege non-delivery. One of the five September reviews is the one about a crypto trading platform. There is another side. About 33 of Thor's 46 Trustpilot reviews are five-star (72%), so most reviewers report a normal purchase.

The depository is named by reviewers; Thor's site names none. What a holding record from the Delaware Depository looks like, and how IRA accounts are titled there, is on its profile.

"Escrow account" and "FBI investigation": two things a normal gold IRA purchase does not include#

Neither of the two is part of a normal gold IRA purchase. Escrow means money held by a third party until a deal closes. A buy direction is the form that tells your custodian to pay a dealer for named coins or bars. The two items reviewers describe are listed below, each with how a purchase normally works.

  • Escrow account. Two reviewers say their IRA money went to an "escrow account". Normally the custodian pays the dealer directly, on a buy direction you sign. Thor's own FAQ (SafeOunce earns nothing from this link.) uses the word for money sent by wire: "Sending a bank wire simply funds your escrow account." It says the funds stay there until you confirm the order on a recorded line (read October 2, 2026). That answer does not mention IRAs.
  • FBI investigation. Two reviewers say the company gave an "FBI investigation" as the reason for delay. SafeOunce found no public record of one, and none may exist.

The table sets the normal path of IRA money beside what reviewers describe.

Step Normal gold IRA purchase What reviewers describe (unverified)
Who sends the money Your custodian, on a buy direction you sign The IRA money left the account
Where it goes Straight to the dealer Two say it went to an "escrow account"
What comes back The depository's confirmation of receipt, then a holdings statement from the custodian Six say the metal, or part of it, had not reached the custodian account or the vault
What you pay to sell or withdraw The custodian's published fees (at Entrust: $0 for a metal sale, $30 for a wire, $250 to close the account) Three say a request to return or withdraw their funds was not paid or not answered

No review of a Thor purchase read on October 2, 2026 describes a fee to release funds. If anyone asks you for such a fee, do not pay it: call your custodian on the number printed on your statement. What gold IRA custodians do, and what they never ask you to pay, is on our custodian hub.

BBB complaints and Trustpilot numbers, and their limits#

The BBB shows 5 complaints against Thor closed in three years and only 2 customer reviews. Trustpilot shows a score of 2.3 from 46 reviews (both as of October 2, 2026). Trustpilot marks the profile "Hasn't replied to negative reviews". Why is the score 2.3 when 72% of reviews are five-star? Trustpilot's score is not a simple average.

The BBB complaints page lists 4 of the 5 as "Complaint Unanswered" and 1 as "Complaint Answered" (October 2, 2026). It shows the text of one. In that complaint, dated May 4, 2026, a customer alleges that silver bought in a rollover was not in storage after 3 months and that calls were not returned. Thor replied on May 8, 2026. It called the matter "an unfortunate misunderstanding" and wrote that the two sides had "agreed on the solution". The BBB marks the complaint "Answered". That label means the business replied, and the customer either did not accept the reply or did not tell the BBB.

Both numbers have limits, and three matter here. The BBB shows the text of only 1 of the 5 complaints. "Closed" does not mean the customer was satisfied. And a dispute that goes to private arbitration may never reach the BBB. With 4 of 5 complaint texts not shown and only 2 BBB reviews, SafeOunce does not compute a complaint rate for Thor.

Thor Metals Group Lawsuit and Regulator Record#

One federal lawsuit names Thor Metals Group LLC, a copyright claim by Dow Jones that is still pending, and SafeOunce found no regulator action, as of October 2, 2026. The lawsuit is not about customers' metal or money. A search of the CourtListener court database for "Thor Metals Group" on October 2, 2026 returned no customer lawsuit against Thor.

Dow Jones & Company v. Thor Metals Group LLC (C.D. Cal. No. 2:26-cv-05129)#

Dow Jones & Company, Inc. and MarketWatch, Inc. sued Thor Metals Group LLC on May 13, 2026, alleging copyright infringement under 17 U.S.C. 501. The case is Dow Jones & Company, Inc. v. Thor Metals Group LLC, C.D. Cal. No. 2:26-cv-05129. On the CourtListener copy read October 2, 2026 (last updated September 8, 2026), it is pending, with no ruling on the claim. The table lists the main docket entries.

Date Docket entry
May 13, 2026 Complaint filed; report on the filing of a copyright action
May 26, 2026 Summons issued; notice of assignment to judges
September 8, 2026 Affidavit filed
Outcome Pending; no answer, default or judgment found (docket copy read October 2, 2026)

The docket also lists entries dated August 12 and September 1, 2026, whose text SafeOunce has not read. Nor has SafeOunce read the complaint, so we do not know which articles or content the claim covers. Dow Jones publishes The Wall Street Journal, Barron's and MarketWatch. A summons is the court paper that tells a defendant it has been sued.

Regulator actions: none found#

SafeOunce found no CFTC, SEC, FTC or state regulator action against Thor Metals Group LLC in searches on September 29 and October 2, 2026. That covers the searches we could run. The state registers in California, Florida and Texas blocked automated access, so those were web searches, not register searches. One reviewer says a complaint was filed with a state securities regulator, which SafeOunce cannot confirm.

Regulator actions can take years to become public, so "none found" describes these searches, not the future. Every case SafeOunce tracks is in our list of precious metals IRA enforcement actions.

If You Already Sent Money to Thor Metals Group: Check Delivery in 5 Steps#

If you have paid Thor for IRA metal, your custodian can tell you in one phone call whether the metal reached the depository. You do not need the dealer's help to check delivery. The 5 steps are listed below.

  1. Call your custodian on the number on your statement, not a number a salesperson gave you.
  2. Ask for the depository's confirmation of receipt, listing each product and quantity, and a current holdings statement.
  3. Compare the date with Thor's own promise for IRAs: delivery "within twenty-eight (28) days" after the funds arrive from your custodian.
  4. Put a complaint to Thor and to your custodian in writing if the metal is missing after 30 days, and stop any further purchase.
  5. Report it to your state securities regulator, and keep every email, invoice and wire record.

The full checklist to check delivery of IRA metal, with the forms to ask for, is on our delivery guide.

The custodian confirms what it holds, not whether the price was fair. The SEC and state regulators warn that self-directed IRA custodians "generally do not evaluate the quality or legitimacy of any investment" (SEC and NASAA investor alert). So the confirmation of receipt answers one question only: is the metal there?

The risk window is the time between the custodian's payment and the depository's receipt. In earlier dealer failures, money already paid for metal not yet delivered was the money at risk. One example is Midas Gold Group, Bankr. D. Ariz. No. 2:24-bk-04587, which became a Chapter 7 liquidation on September 25, 2024. Another is Capital Gold Group, Bankr. C.D. Cal. No. 1:19-bk-10501, a Chapter 7 case filed March 3, 2019 and closed April 1, 2025. Thor is operating and is not in bankruptcy.

Step 5 says to report. Which agency handles what is on how to report a gold IRA company. This is general information, not legal advice.

Thor's Contract Terms: 28-Day Delivery, a 7-Day Grace Period and a $100 Liability Cap#

Thor publishes website terms and an FAQ, but no customer or purchase agreement, as of October 2, 2026. The promises (28-day delivery, 7-day refund) sit in the FAQ. The limits ($100, one year, Los Angeles) sit in the terms. The table lists what Thor's two public documents say.

Term What Thor's page says What it means
Delivery Within 28 days of cleared funds; for IRAs, within 28 days after the funds arrive from the custodian (FAQ) A written promise you can hold Thor to
Refund "Our grace period is 7 days" (FAQ) A dealer promise; the start day is not stated
Disputes One arbitrator, American Arbitration Association, Commercial Arbitration Rules, Los Angeles (terms, section 18) A private judge instead of a court
Claim deadline "within one (1) year" for claims related to the website (terms, section 13) Wait too long and the claim is lost
Liability cap "shall not exceed $100" in total (terms) The most Thor says it can owe you under these terms
Law California (terms, section 19) California law decides disputes
Class-action waiver None found You are not barred from a group case by these terms
Advice Thor "does not provide investment, legal, retirement planning, or tax advice" (terms) Thor's own terms say it gives no advice. LendEDU's review (February 9, 2026) lists a quarterly analysis service
Prices, orders, buyback, IRA purchases Not covered Ask for the purchase agreement

How these terms compare with ten other sellers is on gold IRA company contracts.

Delivery within 28 days of good funds#

Thor's FAQ promises delivery "within twenty-eight (28) days after TMG's verification that the Purchase Funds are backed by good funds". Good funds means money that has cleared. The FAQ adds that bank checks can take "up to twelve (12) business days" to clear. It also says a misdelivery by a driver is "covered by us and our insurance".

The promise itself is a good one. Twenty-eight days is the benchmark regulators use: federal law treats "actual delivery" within 28 days as the test for financed retail metals deals (7 U.S.C. 2(c)(2)(D)). That law does not bind a cash IRA purchase, but Goldline's account agreement (Ver. 20220601) uses the same number.

How does the promise compare with what reviewers report? One reviewer writes that 9 months after the purchase Thor had provided no proof of deposit. Nine months is about 270 days, or roughly 10 times the promised 28. The first FAQ sentence speaks of delivery to the customer's address. A second sentence covers IRAs: "For IRA transactions, Thor Metals Group shall arrange delivery of the Precious Metals specified in the order within twenty-eight (28) days after the Purchase Funds have been received from the third-party custodian" (FAQ, read October 2, 2026). So for an IRA the 28 days start when the custodian's payment reaches Thor. The sentence does not name the depository as the place of delivery.

The 7-day grace period, and the separate right to cancel a gold IRA#

Thor's FAQ says "Our grace period is 7 days" and promises "a refund no questions asked". The promise appears only in the FAQ, not in the terms. The FAQ does not say which day the 7 days start or whether IRA orders are covered.

A separate federal right exists. You can revoke a new IRA within 7 days of receiving its disclosure statement (26 CFR 1.408-6(d)(4)(ii)). That right is against the custodian and covers the account, not the metal order. Neither clock helps once 7 days pass and the metal has not arrived.

How the federal right to cancel a gold IRA works is on our cancellation page.

Arbitration in Los Angeles, a one-year claim deadline and the $100 cap#

Thor's website terms send disputes to a single arbitrator of the American Arbitration Association in Los Angeles. They give you one year to start a claim and cap Thor's total liability at $100. Arbitration is a private judge instead of a court. A liability cap is the most the company says it can owe you.

Section 18 says disputes are "settled by a single arbitrator" under the association's "Commercial Arbitration Rules". Section 13 says a claim "must begin within one (1) year after the cause of action accrues". The terms say Thor's aggregate liability "shall not exceed $100". That is about 0.1% of the $95,000 one reviewer names. SafeOunce found no class-action waiver in the terms.

Set the one-year deadline beside the waits reviewers report: 8 months, 9 months and "almost a year". A customer who waits that long for metal can use up most of the year the terms allow. So put your complaint in writing at day 30 and note the date.

These are terms "related to the Website". Thor has not published an invoice or purchase agreement, so it is not known which document governs a purchase. What an arbitration filing would cost under this clause is also not established. What gold IRA arbitration costs and how long it takes is on our guide to getting money back from a gold IRA company.

What the terms leave out: prices, buyback and IRA purchases#

Thor's public terms say nothing about what you pay, how you cancel an order, what Thor pays when you sell, or how an IRA purchase works. The 5 missing items are listed below.

  • Price and markup per coin
  • Order confirmation and cancellation
  • Buyback price and payment time
  • Custodian and depository
  • Where your money is held before the metal ships

Ask for the purchase agreement and an itemized invoice by email before you send money. Federal telemarketing rules require a seller to tell you the total cost and quantity before you pay (16 CFR 310.3(a)(1)(i)).

Thor Metals Group Fees in 2026: Not Published#

Thor publishes no gold IRA fee schedule: its site says only "Free Gold IRA set-up", free shipping and free insurance, as of October 2, 2026. Three review sites print fee figures for Thor that its own site does not carry. Thor's IRA kit landing page (SafeOunce earns nothing from this link.) also has a footnote on free metal: "Free metals represent actual metals up to 1% of the purchase price and is subject to availability. Call for details" (read October 2, 2026). The text SafeOunce could read does not say which coins or which order size it applies to. The table shows which of 8 basic facts Thor's website publishes.

Field On thormetalsgroup.com What other sites say (attributed, unverified)
Setup fee "Free Gold IRA set-up" n/a
Annual custodian fee Not published n/a
Storage fee Not published "First two years" covered at $100,000 or more, then about $100 a year (LendEDU, USA Today, RetirementLiving)
Minimum Not published $10,000 for an IRA (RetirementLiving)
Prices and markup Not published "1% to 3%" (LendEDU, USA Today)
Custodian Not named Entrust (named in Trustpilot reviews)
Depository "Reputable Depositories" Delaware Depository (reviewers); Brinks, IDS and Delaware (RetirementLiving)
Buyback terms Not published; a landing page lists a "No Fee Buy-Back Program" with no terms "No fees on buyback" (LendEDU)

A fee schedule is the dated list of charges a custodian or seller gives you. On Thor Metals Group fees, the count is 8 fields and 0 dollar figures published.

What custodians and sellers that do publish charge is compared on gold IRA fees.

What "free gold IRA setup" and covered storage are worth#

Free setup is worth about $50, and two free years of storage about $200 to $300, at the custodian named in Thor's reviews. The storage offer is reported by review sites, not by Thor's own site. The dollar values come from the Entrust fee schedule (Rev. 01/09/2026) and its Delaware Depository storage form (Rev. 3/7/2024).

Gold IRA custodian fees at Entrust, the custodian reviewers name#

If your Thor IRA sits at The Entrust Group with storage at Delaware Depository, the account costs $319 to $369 a year on $50,000. On $100,000 it costs $404 to $454 a year (schedules read September 29, 2026). The lower figure is for non-segregated storage: shared storage that returns the same type and amount, maybe not the same pieces. The higher figure is for segregated storage: your pieces kept apart and returned as the same pieces. The table lists the gold IRA custodian fees on the Entrust schedule.

Fee Amount Source
Setup $50, once Entrust schedule
Recordkeeping $219 a year for one asset type ($329 for two or more), plus 0.17% of value above $50,000, capped at $2,299 Entrust schedule
Purchases and sales of metal $0 Entrust schedule
Storage at Delaware Depository $100 a year non-segregated; $150 a year segregated Entrust-Delaware form
Termination $250 Entrust schedule
Wire $30 Entrust schedule

Every custodian's schedule is compared on gold IRA custodian fees.

As a share of your balance, the non-segregated cost is about 1.3% a year on $25,000 ($319), 0.64% on $50,000 ($319) and 0.40% on $100,000 ($404).

Three details can raise the bill. Entrust's fee schedule example counts each product and year as a separate asset type, so two kinds of coin can move you to $329. The percentage fee rises with the gold price. And segregated storage through Entrust and Delaware is for gold, platinum and palladium only.

Thor does not name a custodian on its website. Entrust is named in Thor's Trustpilot reviews, so confirm yours and ask for its fee schedule with the revision date. How Entrust counts asset types is explained on our page about Entrust Group fees.

Thor Metals Group Minimum Investment: Not Published#

Thor does not publish a minimum investment for a gold IRA, as of October 2, 2026. RetirementLiving prints $10,000 for IRAs, and both $5,000 and $10,000 for cash purchases on the same page. None of these figures is on Thor's site. Review sites also say the reported storage-fee coverage starts at $100,000.

The IRS sets no minimum for a gold IRA. The 2026 IRA contribution limit is $7,500, plus $1,100 at age 50 or older (IRS Notice 2025-67). That is why most gold IRAs start with a rollover or transfer from an older account, not with new money.

Ask Thor for the Thor Metals Group minimum investment in writing; do not rely on a review site's number. Gold IRA minimums by company differ widely. Every published figure is on gold IRA minimums by company.

The Cost Thor Does Not Publish: the Markup, and the "Low-Price Guarantee"#

Thor publishes no coin prices and no markup, so the largest cost of a Thor gold IRA appears only on your invoice. Its "Low-Price Guarantee" has no published terms. The site does not say lower than whom, on which products, or what you get if it is not. The spot price is today's market price for one ounce of raw metal. The markup, or spread, is the share of your price that is not metal.

Other pages fill the gap with figures Thor does not print. LendEDU and USA Today say "1% to 3%". Financial Services Review says Thor's pricing "aligns with major discount dealers". One reviewer alleges overcharging on an April 2025 purchase. None of this is verified.

How rare is a published markup? Of 15 operating sellers SafeOunce audited, 4 publish a spread range and 4 publish live prices (September 29, 2026). The CFTC says legitimate dealers' spreads are often under 20%, while fraudulent ones can pass 300% (CFTC precious metals advisory, 2024).

If Thor's prices match discount dealers, a written quote will show it. Compare the quote for a 1-ounce American Gold Eagle with a large online dealer's price the same hour. As a benchmark, buying and selling that coin the same day at a large online dealer cost about 5% to 7% on September 29, 2026. What sellers print in their contracts is on gold IRA markups and spreads.

How much gold must rise before you break even#

Even at the 3% markup that review sites quote for Thor, gold must rise about 8% before a buyer who sells back gets back to even. The extra rise is needed because a dealer's buyback bid sits below its own cost. The buyback bid is the price a dealer pays when you sell. The table shows the rise needed at four markups.

Markup Rise needed to reach dealer cost Rise needed including the buyback gap
3% 3.1% 8.2%
5% 5.3% 10.4%
10% 11.1% 16.6%
20% 25.0% 31.1%

Test your own quote in the gold IRA break-even calculator.

What a $100,000 Thor Gold IRA Could Cost: Year 1 and 10 Years#

On the Entrust and Delaware Depository schedules, a $100,000 gold IRA costs $504 in account fees in year one. Over ten years it costs $4,840 with segregated storage, including the $250 closing fee. The markup is extra: at 3% to 20% it adds $7,547 to $23,750 if you sell back at a flat gold price. The first table lists the account fees.

Cost Year 1 10 years
Setup (Thor's site says setup is free: if Thor pays it, subtract $50) $50 $50
Recordkeeping ($219 + 0.17% of the $50,000 above $50,000) $304 $3,040
Storage, segregated $150 $1,500
Termination $0 $250
Total, segregated $504 $4,840
Total, non-segregated $454 $4,340
Markup on purchase Not published Not published

The second table adds four markup scenarios and the buyback gap to the account fees, with the metal price held flat.

Markup Day-one sale value of $100,000 Markup and buyback-gap loss 10 years of fees 10-year total cost Share of $100,000
3% $92,453 $7,547 $4,840 $12,387 12.4%
5% $90,547 $9,453 $4,840 $14,293 14.3%
10% $85,781 $14,219 $4,840 $19,059 19.1%
20% $76,250 $23,750 $4,840 $28,590 28.6%

So the total cost of a $100,000 gold IRA depends far more on the markup than on the yearly fees. Over ten years the fees are $4,840 in every row; the markup loss runs from $7,547 to $23,750.

One more point about year one. Entrust values metal at the daily spot value, without the dealer's markup. Your first statement can show less than you paid, and that is not a custodian error. Run your own amount and custodian in the gold IRA fee calculator.

Thor Metals Group Buyback: No Written Terms#

Thor publishes no buyback terms: no price formula and no payment time appear on its site or in its terms, as of October 2, 2026. Its IRA kit landing page (SafeOunce earns nothing from this link.) lists a "No Fee Buy-Back Program" among its benefits, with no terms attached (read October 2, 2026). A magazine profile calls it a "guaranteed buyback policy", and LendEDU reports "no fees on buyback". None of the three gives a price formula or a payment time.

Other dealers' contracts point the other way. Three agreements SafeOunce has read say the law prohibits a dealer from guaranteeing to repurchase metal. They are those of American Hartford Gold (2026), Lear Capital (December 2025) and Preserve Gold (June 2025). One of Thor's 12 one-star reviewers also says a request to sell platinum, made in early January 2026, had no call back by the time of the review (posted February 24, 2026). That is a reviewer statement, unverified.

You do not have to sell through the dealer that sold to you. Your custodian can take a sale instruction to any dealer that deals with it. On Thor Metals Group buyback, ask for the bid on your coins today, in writing. What each seller's contract really promises is on gold IRA buyback programs compared.

Thor's Custodians, Depositories and Products#

Thor's website names no custodian and no depository; it says only that it works with "Reputable Depositories", as of October 2, 2026. Thor's Trustpilot reviews name Entrust as custodian and Delaware Depository as the vault. Thor's homepage says orders are "fully insured until you have them in hand", but that sentence describes shipping, not IRA storage.

Two rules apply to any gold IRA. IRA bullion must be "in the physical possession of a trustee" (26 U.S.C. 408(m)(3)(B)). And FDIC and SIPC insurance never covers IRA metal. USA Today's review speaks of "IRS-approved depositories", but the IRS approves no depository. The 3 questions to ask Thor about custody are listed below.

  1. Ask which custodian holds the account, and whether you may choose another.
  2. Ask which depository stores the metal, and whether the account is titled to your IRA.
  3. Ask whether storage is segregated, and the yearly price.

Vault insurance, audits and account titling are compared on gold IRA depositories.

On products, Thor's site lists gold, silver and platinum. The magazine profile says it focuses on "American Eagles, Maple Leafs, bars and rounds", while bullion.directory lists "numismatic coins". American Gold Eagles are IRA-eligible by name under 26 U.S.C. 408(m)(3)(A). Other gold must be at least .995 fine, and platinum .9995 (408(m)(3)(B)). For an IRA, ask for 1-ounce bullion coins or bars and the percent over spot for each.

Thor Metals Group Pros and Cons#

Thor's five strengths are promises in its FAQ, terms and record; its seven weaknesses are records and missing documents. The table lists both, as of October 2, 2026.

Pros Cons
Written 28-day delivery promise (FAQ) Site claims a BBB "A rating"; the BBB shows F
7-day "no questions asked" refund (FAQ) 6 of 12 one-star reviews in 2026 allege non-delivery (unverified; counted October 2, 2026), and none shows a company reply
Free shipping and insurance; misdelivery "covered by us and our insurance" (FAQ) No fees, minimum, prices or markup published
No class-action waiver in the website terms No custodian, depository or buyback terms published
No regulator action found $100 liability cap and one-year claim limit in the website terms
Pending copyright lawsuit naming the company
Two addresses in circulation

Who Thor Suits, and Who Should Wait#

On the record as of October 2, 2026, SafeOunce cannot name a reader Thor suits today. A new buyer should wait until the delivery complaints are answered and the prices are in writing. The table gives a verdict for 6 situations.

Your situation What to do Why
Already paid, metal not confirmed Call the custodian today; follow the 5 steps Only the custodian can confirm receipt
Already paid, metal confirmed at the depository Keep the receipt; you can hold, and you can sell through any dealer your custodian accepts The metal belongs to your IRA, not to Thor
Inside Thor's 7-day grace period Decide now; cancel by email if you have doubts The FAQ promise ends after 7 days
Considering Thor Wait; ask the 6 questions; go ahead only with a written quote, a purchase agreement and the custodian paying the dealer directly The record is unresolved and the costs are unpublished
Under $25,000 to invest A gold ETF in the IRA you already have can cost less; see gold IRA vs gold ETF Flat yearly fees weigh more on a small balance: $319 a year is about 1.3% of $25,000 (Entrust and Delaware schedules, non-segregated)
Contacted by a "recovery" firm Do not pay; report it Upfront recovery fees are a known follow-up scam

Anyone who still wants to deal with Thor should ask the 6 questions below, in order, and keep the answers.

  1. Ask why the site says BBB "A rating" when the BBB shows F.
  2. Ask for the price per coin and the percent over spot, by email.
  3. Ask which custodian and depository Thor works with, and confirm the custodian pays the dealer directly, with no "escrow".
  4. Ask for the purchase agreement before paying.
  5. Ask which day the 7-day grace period starts.
  6. Ask what Thor would pay for the same coins tomorrow, and how fast.

These 6 questions come from the gaps on this page. A general guide on how to choose a gold IRA company covers more ground. The full list of 12 questions is on how to choose a gold IRA company.

How SafeOunce Rates Thor Metals Group#

Thor Metals Group's SafeOunce result is provisional: it earned 26 of the 42 points checked so far (October 2, 2026). SafeOunce rates Thor on 7 criteria worth 100 points, and any item a company will not show a buyer scores zero. The other 58 points are not yet checked: 19 need our written quote test, and 39 need documents or checks we have not finished. A provisional result has no band and is not a score out of 100. The rating card above is computed from methodology version 1.1, not written by hand. Five Trustpilot reviews of Thor posted from August 13 to September 28, 2026 allege non-delivery. They are customer reports that SafeOunce has not verified, so they do not put Thor on the watch list. The table lists each criterion and what SafeOunce holds for it.

Thor is not closed and not sanctioned by a regulator (October 2, 2026). Thor does not have to answer SafeOunce to be scored: since method version 1.1, the score comes from public records and from a written quote requested the way a buyer would request it. Until that quote test is done, the rating card shows a provisional result with no band. Thor is not on SafeOunce's watch list: that label needs 3 or more non-delivery complaints filed with the BBB or a regulator within 90 days, and unverified reviews alone do not count. No company can pay to change its rating or its place. The gates, weights and evidence rules are on how SafeOunce rates gold IRA companies.

How Does Thor Metals Group Compare With Other Gold IRA Companies?#

Thor publishes less than most gold IRA companies SafeOunce has checked: no fees, no minimum and no prices, where several rivals print at least their account fees. The table compares Thor with 4 other sellers, with values as of September 29, 2026 unless a row says otherwise.

Company IRA minimum Account fees published BBB grade Low-star review pattern
Thor Metals Group Not published No F (October 2, 2026) Non-delivery allegations, 2026
Goldco $25,000 Yes: $50 setup, $125 a year plus $100 or $150 storage A+ Pricing and premium coins
Augusta Precious Metals $50,000 (company FAQ, September 23, 2026) Yes: $50 setup, $125 and $110 a year (company FAQ) A+ Few
Birch Gold Group $5,000 About $235 a year A+ Pricing
Colonial Metals Group Not published "$350-400 per year" (FAQ) F Non-delivery allegations, 2024 to 2026

Which company is the best for a gold IRA depends on cost, contract and record, not on one grade. Rankings by real cost, contract terms and legal record are on best gold IRA companies.

Thor Metals Group and Colonial Metals Group: the same 2026 complaint pattern#

Thor is one of two operating sellers where half or more of the 2026 one-star reviews read allege non-delivery. The other is Colonial Metals Group, where 16 of 23 one-star reviews read allege it. Those Colonial reviews are dated January to August 2026 and were read on September 29, 2026. They are unverified too. One difference matters: Colonial has customer lawsuits on file, and no customer lawsuit against Thor was found. One is Leight v. Colonial Metals Group LLC and Equity Trust Company, S.D. Fla. No. 9:26-cv-80545, filed May 12, 2026. The clerk entered a default in August 2026. The claims are alleged, not proven, and the case is pending as of September 29, 2026. The court files and the review counts are in our Colonial Metals Group review.

Most of the older gold IRA cases were about overpricing. The newest complaints are about metal that reviewers say did not arrive.

What happened to customers when dealers closed is on failed gold IRA companies. Thor is operating; it is not on that list.

Recovery offers after a complaint about a gold IRA company#

Anyone who contacts you offering to recover your money from Thor for an upfront fee is a red flag. Recovery firms are promoted inside one-star reviews of Thor and Colonial in 2026. Paying one can add a second loss to the first, which is why such offers appear on many lists of gold IRA scams. The 11 warning signs, with the cases behind each, are on gold IRA scams.

Are Thor Metals Group reviews on other sites paid?#

At least one ranking Thor review says so itself: LendEDU's page states that "Many or all companies we feature compensate us" (read October 2, 2026). A pending lawsuit makes a wider claim. In Orion Precious Metals, Inc. v. Money Group, LLC, C.D. Cal. No. 2:26-cv-07092, filed June 29, 2026, Orion alleges money.com is "paid by these companies to rank their businesses as a top choice". It names Thor Metals Group among them. The case is pending, and no ruling is known as of September 29, 2026.

SafeOunce did not find published terms for a Thor affiliate program. SafeOunce takes no money from any company named on this page. No company can pay to change its rating or its place. How this site is funded is on who pays SafeOunce.

Is Thor Metals Group a custodian?#

No: Thor is the dealer that sells the metal, a separate trust company is the custodian that holds your IRA, and a depository stores the coins. The SEC and NASAA warn that custodians "generally do not evaluate the quality or legitimacy of any investment".

Is Thor Metals Group BBB accredited?#

No: the BBB profile for Thor Metals Group LLC says "Not BBB Accredited" and shows a grade of F, as of October 2, 2026. Accreditation is a paid membership. It is separate from the grade, so a firm can hold one without the other.

Can you keep Thor IRA gold at home?#

No: IRA bullion must be in the physical possession of a trustee, so metal Thor ships to your house is either a non-IRA purchase or a taxable distribution. The rule is 26 U.S.C. 408(m)(3)(B), and the Tax Court applied it in McNulty v. Commissioner, 157 T.C. No. 10 (2021). The court case is covered on home storage gold IRA.

Is a gold IRA a good idea at all?#

It depends on cost and time: a gold IRA carries a markup and yearly fees that a fund does not, and gold pays no interest or dividends. The general case, with the numbers, is on whether a gold IRA is a good investment.
